I received an infraction due to "inappropriate language" by a moderator who goes by the name "Groucho".

Original message:

F*cking hell Howard just send it if you have no other options...

All the best,
GrandOldTeam

I attempted to dispute the incident, but received a seven-day ban for doing so. I said (and I still stand by the fact that) nothing I said was illegal or offensive (unless, for some religious reason, you find "hell" offensive, in which case I sincerely apologise). I did not directly or indirectly insult anyone and I did not use any bad language at all.

I was prepared to accept this as harsh moderation and move on. All people interpret things differently and, who knows, maybe the moderator was having a bad day. However, I came across this thread:
http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/64854-ALAN-MYERS

In here, a message not dissimilar to my "offensive" one was posted. An image of the incident can be found here:

Right underneath, a moderator has posted. Not only that, but it is a direct reply to the post. The "word" that I'm assuming I was banned for posting is repeated in the post and, via a reply, clearly its use is accepted by this moderator.

I'm not aiming to have this other person receive an infraction too, but rather, for there to be a fair standard of moderation across the forum. I used to use the Blueroom a lot. Poor and controversial moderation is what killed that forum and I wouldn't want it to happen here.

And again - as detailed in our rules, infractions are, of course, issued at the discretion of each moderator.

In this instance, the example you gave wasn't worthy of an infraction - as someone highlighted earlier, the member you want infracting was describing what was said elsewhere - that context means it would have been a tad harsh.

I tell you what, I'll instruct all moderators to go through EVERY post in the past month and action every instance of poor language. I'll start with you shall I?

Oh **** !!!

That was a joke.

That's not helpful...

Google class those asterix as abusive language, and their better advertisers will censor advertising on websites considered to have any risk of abusive language. (They don't want their adverts listed alongside any negative material) - so we lose out on the better advertisers.

The next step, is google revoking our publisher license which make no mistake, ends GOT.

Consider me reprimanded.

That said, I'd be curious as to know how many of our members are actually aware of what you mentioned above. Important points that.

Mentioned on every reminder...

... and that's just three of them.

Serious too everyone, the biggest risk to GOT is losing publisher license - I won't/can't pay the difference if that happens.

Really? Like an asterix I post as opposed to GOT asterixing a swear word is still counted as swearing? If that makes sense.

You should let folk know that really, cos I for one had no idea.

And I dont swear anymore after my recent yellow. I am reformed.

And that's what I did too. I never (check that: very very rarely) type an actual swear word.

Foul language
Google continues to proclaim itself as the world’s
largest online cop.
And if your content is deemed too “colorful”, there’s a
high risk of getting your AdSense account banned.

Asterix is seen as an attempt to circuvent but what counts is what is implied.

Similarly, this is why we insist on source links being provided to content too;

Publishing disputed content
Most website owners innocently publish copyrighted material.
Of course these disputes should be settled by its
rightful owner and webmaster.
But Google feels the need to get involved… and if your
site publishes legally disputed material, your AdSense account
could get banned.

Anyone particularly interested, see content guidelines here: https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/48182?cbid=vf1acj03spvp&src=cb&lev=answer

So if you use an asterix in context, like say listing some transfer targets like so, (using @ instead)

@ Messi
@ Suarez
@ Beckford

Is that ok?
