I received an infraction due to "inappropriate language" by a moderator who goes by the name "Groucho".

F*cking hell Howard just send it if you have no other options...

All the best,
GrandOldTeam

I attempted to dispute the incident, but received a seven-day ban for doing so. I said (and I still stand by the fact that) nothing I said was illegal or offensive (unless, for some religious reason, you find "hell" offensive, in which case I sincerely apologise). I did not directly or indirectly insult anyone and I did not use any bad language at all.

I was prepared to accept this as harsh moderation and move on. All people interpret things differently and, who knows, maybe the moderator was having a bad day. However, I came across this thread:
http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/64854-ALAN-MYERS

In here, a message not dissimilar to my "offensive" one was posted. An image of the incident can be found here:

Right underneath, a moderator has posted. Not only that, but it is a direct reply to the post. The "word" that I'm assuming I was banned for posting is repeated in the post and, via a reply, clearly its use is accepted by this moderator.

I'm not aiming to have this other person receive an infraction too, but rather, for there to be a fair standard of moderation across the forum. I used to use the Blueroom a lot. Poor and controversial moderation is what killed that forum and I wouldn't want it to happen here.

Never expected this to even be read, let alone kick up any fuss like it has. I'm genuinely impressed.

On a more serious note, GOT, I did read the rules. The three posts which you have listed all specify a different version of the "bad language" rule. In the actual rules (which is, I'll admit, the only one I read at the time of posting because it is stickied and I didn't go searching for additional rule reminder threads like a nonce because be honest, who would do that?) it says nothing of asterisks. To the vast majority of the world, using asterisks to replace letters in an offensive word is acceptable. They do it in advertising, they do it in the papers, hell, they even do it on BBC News.

So I hope you can see my frustration. Your second link (http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/53492-Language-Another-Polite-Reminder) is the only one that mentions asterisks.

Now, moving on to my mentioning of another user not being banned for equally "poor" language:

Everything you listed is all well and good, and I can accept the fact that you have so few moderators for so many posts. However, my point still stands: the moderator in question replied directly to that post. He didn't miss it.

Not that I'm trying to get anyone in trouble. I don't care about his post and I don't really mind that the moderator didn't at the time. I do care about fair and equal treatment though, and this was a situation where those weren't being upheld.

I didn't "bemoan the lack of moderation from where I came from". I bemoaned the poor standard of it and the controversial actions of the moderators. There is a difference.

On the questioning side of things, without wishing to speak for the other mods, I like to think we're all pretty transparent about how we do things, and would be quite happy to talk over any decisions in private should anyone want.

Having said that, as Dan highlighted, this place is incredibly active, and there's only 7 of us, so if a particular member does take up an undue amount of our attention then it's not likely to end well for them. We're only volunteers after all, and time is finite.

You seem more relaxed about the issue than Groucho, who banned me for disputing the infraction. I'm glad there is at least one moderator that the forum can converse with. I think that's the main reason behind my creating of this thread: not being able to communicate and get my point across with the moderator. It felt a little like a police state: his word is God and I dare not disagree. To a certain extent, that is true. Moderators should have the final say while allowing discussion and this is something he didn't really do.

Anyway, I'm happy I got my point across. Not really fussed what happens either way now. I like the red. Snazzy.

And again - as detailed in our rules, infractions are, of course, issued at the discretion of each moderator.

In this instance, the example you gave wasn't worthy of an infraction - as someone highlighted earlier, the member you want infracting was describing what was said elsewhere - that context means it would have been a tad harsh.

I tell you what, I'll instruct all moderators to go through EVERY post in the past month and action every instance of poor language. I'll start with you shall I?

Dislike
Liverpool (obviously)
Arsenal (hate that frog)
Newcastle (Parder is a w*nker)
United (obviously)
Spurs (Levy is a w*nker)

Like
Everton (obviously)

That's about it. Celtic are alright I guess.

Actually hope that we proper dick Stevenage cause their manager is going ott and being a cocky nonce.

Oh [Poor language removed], that's terrible. Feel even worse now. Does anyone know what operation he had? Did he have pins? As far as I know, if you get pins you're finished, so I really hope they've just set his leg.

I hope Martinez can shout the entire team to s*** (happy I censored more letters, mod?). They deserve everything they get.

Take your pick, lads. However, there really is no excusing this shambles and every single player (bar Mirallas) should be docked a month's pay.

Well f*cking done Distin. You were at fault for their goal and you STOPPED BARRY SCORING.

Drop him for Stones.
