How is he lazy mate?

On this very forum, by multiple users, his performance on Wednesday has been referred to as 'rigid' and 'static'.

Several people have stated his movement off the ball was poor and that he didn't do enough in the game to get involved.

Several users also asserted that he possibly wasn't match fit and that he looked knackered.

Lazy literally means 'Unwilling to work, use energy or effort'

Taking all of that into account, it's not a gargantuan leap to suggest that 'lazy' could be an apt term that one person might use.

It's not a leap that I would make, not because of the implications for use of that word, I just didn't think the reason for his performance was laziness.

I'm not going to take exception with those that do have that opinion and call them racists. Absolutely mental.

We’ve seen it before with Lukaku.

And Yobo and Drenthe.

I believe it was a term favoured by Ron Atkinson to describe certain players too.

Make of that what you will.

Why are several of you so desperate to label this bloke a racist? Jesus christ.

He's called someone lazy, as far as I can see, he hasn't said any of the above - only you have said that.

Again, as far as I can see, he's not said anything remotely racist - get off your high horse, you're not woke.

If I'm wrong i'll hold my hands up, but this mob mentality needs to stop.

Where did he call anyone a racist? You’re getting awfully defensive about this.

We’ve seen it before with Lukaku.

Of course, and there are multiple instances where that word has been used (in combination with other words) and the outcome is indisputably offensive - as we saw with Big Ron at the 1998 World Cup.

And in those cases i'll stand side by side with you all and say that's bang out of order and we need to put a stop to it. I just don't think that using that this is one of those cases. If i'm wrong, I don't know the guy ultimately so he could be a massive racist, I'll hold my hands up.

Context is absolutely everything. I think you need a fair bit more evidence to call someone a racist, other than someone calling a player lazy. Maybe that's just me. It's dangerous to the future of platforms like this too if people feel they can't freely express themselves.

I'm sure we'd all agree that a Footballer can be lazy, irrespective of their race, gender, culture or background. Yes?

Berbatov, Balotelli, Mido, Robinho and Taarabt are some of the laziest Footballers i've seen in the Premier League and, irrespective of their talent, few would argue otherwise.

Because, at one time or another, the word 'lazy' has been used by racists, it's still a commonly used adjective within the English language and the way it's been used here doesn't pertain to the players race, in my humble opinion.

If, as a mod, you deem otherwise and apply a ban for being racist, then that's within your power - I just disagree.

Any examples of players who aren't foreigners please mate? Just for balance.

It doesn't surprise me that you've taken issue with a separate point rather than the matter at hand..... *sighs*

But, sure loads of them at one time or another, Carroll, Collymore, Pennant, Le Tissier, Alli, Dyer, Joe Cole, Gascoigne, Barkley, Wilshere have all been called lazy, many of them by their own fans.
