Okay; well Luis Suarez, van Persie, Arjen Robben all came from the Dutch league. Being in the Top 10 leagues in the world hardly means much considering outside of Europe no one plays decent football.

France has amazing academies, yes. The league being great? Not so much. When’s the last time a team from France did anything memorable in Europe? Even oil rich PSG haven’t won anything.

Of the 22 man France squad that won the World Cup only 9 played in France. Of those 9 only 5 now play in France.

Lyon got to the Champions League semi-finals and PSG into the final literally three months ago.

Monaco got to the semis with a brilliant team in 2016.

Lyon absolutely rinsed us (admittedly a very poor version of us) three years ago - Marseille got to the 2017-18 Europa League final.

Well we are definitely going to make a profit at least. Shame we couldn't get it going here but what can you do DCL was better.

Would've been nice to have had the option to play 4-4-2 from the start on Sunday, like.

Or just have actually signed a replacement when letting two forward players go (even if I don't care that Walcott left and see the reasons why Kean went - though I didn't want him to).

Yes but I still think Kean said he needed minutes and took the best offer. It isn't constructive to force him to stay in that scenario.

That's also why I think people are underestimating how hard finding a backup is going to be for Dom when they constantly shout about how we should have replaced Tosun. DCL figures to play a lot and most players don't want a bench appearance here and there. We don't have Europe. It's tough.

Nice amount of trophies in the bag there.

Well it's not a 'back-up' we need, is it?

People need to get their heads around that we need more than 10-11 decent players to be successful.

We needed - and still need - a player (a good player, like) capable of playing any of the front three positions.

Not disputing the point about winning things, or even that it's not the strongest league (though as you say, every league has a fair amount of tosh really).

But you said 'memorable'. Well off the top of my head I recalled four memorable European runs from French teams in the last four years.

Kean is playing in a far better team than Everton and, in the case of two of his goals and now an assist tonight, in the Champions League, so it doesn't even have anything to do with Ligue 1.

It is going to be hard to buy a striker as good as DCL at this point. Kean was actually a good attempt, but even he didn't really have a case to be playing instead. I agree we shouldn't buy players viewing them as backups but that is what the situation is going to cause a striker signing to be.

Well read memorable = won in the context of the point I was making.

Ajax got a semi, RBL got a semi, no one cares about them really.

Get into europe ourselves and there will be plenty of game time for him next year, if carlo wants to keep him. If not then his good form is good for his transfer fee.

I think he'll kick up a fuss about coming back here, especially if we don't get a CL spot. I don't think we'll keep him and if we do we'll be keeping an unhappy person
