But that means nothing - a players value is determined ultimately by what he is worth to the club -

Zaha isn't worth £70 million but if Palace deem that his price you pay it or you dont

Maguire is a donkey yet Leicester held firm and made Utd pay over the odds

Liverpool are masters of it - they sold a good but not world class player for over £120 million and have just sold some bum from the reserves to Sheff Utd for near £25 million whilst we are happy selling a 20 yr old Italian international with a 1 in 2 record for Juventus & PSG for £31 million lol

We get our pants pulled down in most of our big sales - Rooney £27 million? For Englands best talent in many generations

Arteta - £10 million?

Gana - £30 million

Only Lescott & Fellaini we got a fair price for and Lukaku slightly less than what I would have wanted based on his age when he was sold and off the back of scoring 25 goals that season when he was absolute quality.
Yeah didn’t kenwright say he wouldn’t sell Rooney for 50 million, I think I saw him on an interview back in the day, when he did actually say that.

If we make any kind of profit on him it's a good deal considering his first season and his attitude. If we can reinvest that money on someone that will actually contribute for us then we'll be far better off.

Thankfully you're not in charge of anything at Everton.

I think we can all agree on that!

Thats the point really though isn't it? It's all very easy to hypothetically state what we would do, but actually doing the job and being the person who makes the decisions is a lot harder.

Leicester agreed to sell Vardy for 20m to Arsenal.

But other than that, well you know.

On 16 July 2016, Kanté signed for Chelsea for a reported fee of £32 million.
We didn't agree to sell him, £20m was a release clause in his contract that Arsenal activated.

Also regarding the Kante sale, he also had a £20m release clause (only to clubs with European football) and we still managed to get £32m out of Chelsea so it would've been stupid of us to turn that down

There’s something really odd about this whole situation.

The loan decision for starters. Why was he allowed to go on loan in the first place? What we’re we thinking of doing if DCL got injured for any period of time - it would have left us completely [Poor language removed]? There is no sound football rationale for that decision. We’ve been lucky DCL stayed fit an has played every minute otherwise it’s a decision that would have come under more scrutiny.

Then after he has a good half season we’re selling! WTF?

Only acceptable explanation is that we have a replacement lined up and selling Kean will help finance the deal/balance books. Guess that Polish guy at Napoli has been mentioned so who knows. If he’s sold without a replacement coming in in January then it’s just bizarre. Why the rush? Why not wait until summer? If he bangs in a load more goals second half of the season, which you have to think he will do, the transfer fee goes up not down. Odd.

Re a fee of £31 mil - would be a poor fee when you consider Brewster went to Sheff United at the start of the season for £20 mil having barely played a senior game or scored a senior goal. We’re selling a champions league goal scorer, scorer in three of Europe’s top 5 leagues, full Italy international all at the age of 20 for 10 mil more? And to PSG as well, not known to be short of a bob or two.

More really poor transfer dealings and management - unless there’s something we don’t know about motivating the decision.

It was funny those calling him crap then in the same breathe saying we should hold out for ridiculous money for him.
There seems to be a fallacy that there is only one kind of striker and they have to be good at all things in all systems - the same in the DCL thread.

Not to get too Liam’s Neeson but Kean has a particular set of skills that make him very effective, in the right system - like most strikers. He’s a natural finisher, give him chances he’ll score. He’s done well at PSG because they create chances for him. I’d hazard a guess that if he’d been playing up top for us the way we were playing at the start of the season, he would also have scored goals.

On the other hand, put him up front on his own in the system we’ve been playing the last 7/8 games and he would have struggled - he still has to develop his skills to play effectively in this type of system. Similarly last season, particularly under Silva at the start of the season, we were crap as a team and creating very little - he looked ill suited or at least had a lot to improve on leading the line, running channels, holding the ball up, making the right decisions etc. DCL came in and replaced him and never looked back.

Based on where we were/are as a team and what we need/needed from a striker in the system we play/played the last season or two, there are probably better suited players we could have bought. He was poor for us in our set up, it was glaring, so hardly surprising people called it out.

In a different set up playing to his strengths i.e. PSG, he’s clearly not crap so regardless of what people think, we can still expect not to get our pants pulled down by PSG on the transfer fee.

Oh I agree mate, he's not crap and certain players can look bad in one team but can look really good in another.

On the Brewster comparison alone he is worth a minimum £40mil.
