We've got 4 players for those 2 deep positions. Koeman doesn't seem to want to put Barkley or Davies there so we have Schneiderlin Gueye Barry McCarthy. 2 are now injured and one is blatantly too old and slow for this game. Can't believe anyone was arguing we don't need Schneiderlin.
Exactly but. If we really had too many he'd have got injured for a few weeks and no one would have batted an eye.

We really, really need Schneids if we plan to hammer these in a couple weeks. A presence like his in the midfield is what we have sorely lacked in recent seasons. I agree with other posters, Barry is more than serviceable against a lot of the other teams in the Prem, but we'll get overwhelmed by the RS if he's in there. Hopefully McCarthy will be fit enough to play with Gana if Schneids is out

I think it also demonstrates that we need to sell McCarthy. He's a good player but there's no point in him taking up a chunk of the wage bill if he regularly can't be called on.
£25m was touted for him before I think, which sounds like a nice chunk of change to spend on a replacement. Tielemans looks an exciting prospect by all accounts. Going for him would be in line with Walsh stating that we're interested in the very best young talents.
