you're forgetting Klassen
But, Klaasen is not a defensive midfielder.

I don't rate Schneiderlin any more than anybody else but I don't see how he could be sold and leave midfield totally exposed. He is poor but at least knows how to play in that position.
I thought the fact that he was left on the bench against Leicester was important.
The selection against Arsenal was a calculated gamble that went horribly wrong. We had Schneiderlin who doesn't look interested and Williams falls into the same category or else just gone off the boil very quickly. The state that he returned to pre season training did not show the attitude of a good professional.
Keane is having a crisis of confidence, Bolasie will probably not be at his best until next season, Martina is trying to make do at left back and Mangala was thrown into this mess after a training session.

Cleverley, Tim Howard, Louis Saha.

Not often that one of those deals works out.

Honestly if you keep buying from the same place after being stung that many times you need your head checking.
Schneiderlin apart buying Man Utd players is the least of our problems at the moment.
I wonder if Arsenal are saying the same about Mhkitaryian ?

It is signings like Williams, Martina, Klaasen, Niasse to mention a few that worry me.

As it's been covered repeatedly that the vast majority can't stand him, would be interesting to hear what people think would be a way of turning things around for him and how he could contribute to the team for the rest of the season. Assuming he will stay in the Squad until the summer at least...

I personally think he's a good player that has suffered from losing personnel in the side from last season and being wrongly used by the manager. Of course his performances and attitude have been poor for large spells this season but the manager's must take some blame too. I think the losses of Barkley and Lukaku have really impacted on the whole midfield this season because whatever people think of Barkley, he had the ability to drive forward with pace and both him and Lukaku gave us a threat in the final 3rd.

Last season, we got away with playing Gana and Schneiderlin regularly to good effect, as well as having Davies alongside them. All 3 worked great and I think that's because they were able to play to their strengths and get the ball to more attack minded players. Gana and Schneiderlin are very limited in their creativity and their game relies on winning the ball in the middle and giving it quickly to better players. This season, the only creative player we have in the middle is Rooney and he lacks the pace that Barkley had.

For the rest of the season, Allardyce has to recognise that Gana and Schneiderlin will not work together unless they have someone with pace to pick up the ball ahead of them. In the current squad, Walcott and Vlasic could potentially be that missing link that would compliment Gana and Schneiderlin playing in the same team, but I don't see Allardyce using them in that way. Therefore, he simply has to drop one of them and I think nearly all would agree it should be Gana who starts. So I don't go along with the opinion that Schneiderlin is awful, but like many problems caused by whichever manager we've had this season, he needs to be utilised correctly and what is being tried at the moment is quite clearly not working.
To put it bluntly mate hes an absolute coward, nothing more nothing less, pure and utter coward

We shouldn't need to play 2 defensive midfielders especially when they aren't actually very good at their job

A very long post but you didn’t explain his half hearted closing down, half hearted attempt to win ball, jog around most of the time and stand still/walk(yes he walk) after passing the ball to teammates, I thought he is suppose to run into favourable position and create options to eceive the ball? But no, he stand still and totally remove himself from any angle to receive passes.
All these is simply down to effort, not tactics. Individual effort to make himself more influential on the pitch.

I accept that but I think everyone has covered his faults and yet he still keeps getting picked by each manager. So just interested to hear what others think on whether he can still do a job if the manager selects a different midfield, in personnel or formation.

Personally think he could if used right. Don't think he warrants a starting place though as Gana should be in ahead of him as the main DM.

I remember when he first arrived, he top the distance covered stats. Correct me if I'm wrong, I wonder what his stats now. That's basically bread and butter for DM. At this rate, his best position is ball boy behind Pickford goal, similar trait, half hearted when retrieving ball. He will be useful when we are 1 0 up and trying to waste time.

Quite right mate, lost count of the number of times our defenders have opted for the long pass downfield because nobody from midfield is showing for the ball.
