For me, everything up to and including ‘New Adventures In Hi-Fi’ was pretty good. Very up and down thereafter, but thought ‘Collapse Into Now’ was a strong final album. And they were always excellent live.

Shiney Happy People broke me.

Song from Green called Hairshirt (which is what I imagine @Bungle's wife mutters to herself when he takes off his shirt) might be my favorite song by them. Totally under the radar probably but that song for me was perfection.

The band themselves have disowned Shiny Happy People too, so it’s not just you! lol I like ‘You Are The Everything’ off ‘Green’. Loads of great songs on that album.;)

Life's Rich Pageant, Document and Green are very good IMO.

I am a massive REM fan but have never understood why everyone loves Document. Obviously it has the two main hits from the album and Disturbance at the Heron House, Exhuming McCarthy and King of Birds are great songs but I find the rest of it to be incredibly meh, especially the likes of Oddfellows Local 151, Fireplace and Lightin Hopkins. Also not a fan of cover songs going on albums so Strange feels weird too.

The first three releases (Chronic Town, Murmur and Reckoning) are almost perfect for me.

Peter Buck was part owner with his wife at the time of a famous bar/music venue in Seattle called The Crocodile Cafe. Seen him working the bar several times. Seen a load of good music at that place...and some hot garbage.

New Adventures in Hi Fi is one of my favourites of theirs. It's a weird album though as it has a two songs I rate right up there as some of their best (E-Bow the Letter, Electrolite) yet it also has Departure which is my least favourite song of theirs not on Around the Sun by an absolute mile.

I thought Accelerate was really good though it peters off a bit towards the end.

ABBA... close thread it's over.. the only band I'll actively turn off if they came on the radio, and lots of people love them I don't get it.

Go listen to 'Take a chance on me'. The start. Listen to the separate male and female vocals over a two-chord recurring turnaround. Absolute genius to come up with that...
