IMO, their least representative album - most of their stuff before and after is very different. Personally prefer ‘Monster’, not least because they got a then to the record contract off the back of ‘AFTP’, then came back with a very uncommercial follow up. lol

Is being 'least representative' reason enough to not like it? It ends with Nightswimming and Find the River for gawds sake!

Surely Around the Sun is their least representative album due to the fact that it is utter garbage with zero redeeming qualities?

New Adventures in Hi Fi is one of my favourites of theirs. It's a weird album though as it has a two songs I rate right up there as some of their best (E-Bow the Letter, Electrolite) yet it also has Departure which is my least favourite song of theirs not on Around the Sun by an absolute mile.

I thought Accelerate was really good though it peters off a bit towards the end.
Most of their albums have patchy moments, but I’ve always felt that the good outweighs the bad in comparison to other bands. ‘Around The Sun’ wasn’t great, but it’s got at least four standouts on it IMO.

Someone who hasn't a clue about music...

To say you don't like their music - fine.

To say they are garbage - displays a total lack of music understanding.

I would have loved to have been alive when Revolver came out and heard Tomorrow Never Knows for the first time.

I think its easy to overlook The Beatles as most of us will have been beat over the head with them growing up but they did some brilliant stuff.

I will also fight anyone who says Ringo is a bad drummer. (he may be a bit of a knob...)

Didn’t say I didn’t like it - I do! Those two songs are great along with most of the rest. Just think that if someone was suggesting it as a way into R.E.M., they would be scratching their head when they listened to the other albums. ;)

Four??

I'm intrigued.... maybe I am missing something? I think Leaving New York is acceptable. Wanderlust is passable as in a "that's not too bad but will never listen to it again" way other than that I am struggling it just felt such a lazy album.

Thoughts on Up? I think that's pretty underrated.

I was 15 when that came out, and to listen to it for the first time was incredible (Yellow Submarine excepted, which I still think is rubbish). The twin lead guitars on 'And your bird can sing', for 1966, still blows me away.
