Moving to Cumbria

Just to add my thoughts:

I live currently live in Barrow, it is grim but it’s home. I work up Sellafield so know the Whitehaven etc. area. Egremont is by far the worst but all horrid places.

Ulverston and Lindal where I’m from are lovely little places and quite well situated. It’s like less than 2 hours to Manchester and Liverpool and right next to the Lake District if you’re into that kinda thing.

Further east you get smashing places like Kirkby Lonsdale.

can we expect to see you on escape to the country ??

your not one of those tory sorts with 800k to splash out on half a castle are you?

I'm moving from Liverpool to Sedbergh next week, and I cannot wait. Peace, quiet, fresh air. here I come.

Missed this post, how are you getting on in Sedbergh ?.

My lad plays a rugby tournament there every year ( the public school there use it as free scouting session to offer scholarships to the best players ).

It`s a beautiful place, plus it`s the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales too, but very quiet in the Winter. ( may change now that the celebrity chef whose name escapes me has opened a gaff there in the old pub )

Went for an interview there a couple of weeks ago (The Black Bull).
The kind of place were they grow their own peanuts, and charge a quid each for one of them. The rooms are great, fantastic baths and showers. Have an ethos of 'nose to tail' dining - get the whole animal and use every part of it. Place was deserted though, and freezing. They're hooking up with the public school with regards to their fancy dan accommodation so rich bigwigs have somewhere to stay whilst visiting their darlings.
Sedbergh is the only place I've ever seen with books in a bus shelter. Went in another pub, cracking local pint. Would have stayed longer but for the fact that the last bus was due - at 13.40. It would look grim in winter. Got offered the job, but wasn't for me - too pretentious by half.

Pretty flexible tbh. Staying in Gosforth , so going to hit the Barrow area aswell as Whitehaven/Workington. Took on board all the info from here.
Gosforth. There you go. Just stay there it's nice and quiet and well out of the way/close enough to just drive places to go elsewehere. I'd imagine houses would be expensive compared to the bigger towns though.

I've been a regular visitor to Sedbergh for the past 20 years due to my Dad moving here. I fell in love with the place right away.

It's a world away from the hustle and bustle of Liverpool, but Kendal is only 30 minutes away when I want to re-enter civilizaton.

I'm finding it to be quite an adjustment but the place is beautiful. I wouldn't change anything. I call the Sedbergh school "Hogwarts', because the pupils look and act like extras from Harry Potter.

I'm amazed just how many people from Merseyside and Manchester live here. It's not the place to be if your in your 20s or 30s, but for me being in my mid-40s, its perfect.
