Moving to Liverpool

Think I’ll look to buy mate, perhaps a ‘shared ownership mortgage’, selling the house I’m in now so will have enough for a deposit but will go a bit further than a ‘normal’ mortgage going that way. Have thought about Manchester too!

If you’re looking to buy I think you’ll get better value here in Liverpool mate. Manchester is half an hour on a direct train or a 30/40 minute drive if the traffic is alright. Both are cracking cities. Around Aigburth in Liverpool is good because there’s a lot going on here, you don’t have to go into town for a good night out. For me the draw here is Sefton Park, bands play it, BBQs in the park in the summer, food and drink festivals. Not many places you’ll live in your life will have a park like it so close to its centre and it’s walking distance from this part of the city. Good luck whatever you decide pal, starting again is hard and I admire you for taking the plunge to a new city

Being within 30mins of city centre woeful eh good enough for me.

House or flat, whatever I can afford really. I’ve never lived in a massive house so I’m not too bothered about having loads of space. And as I say, I’ll be living alone at first too. Just parking will be needed, not too bothered about a garden.

Yeah being close to a station would be handy too!
I can get the train from my house to town and it's sixteen minutes; most of the time, they run every fifteen minutes, with late and Sunday serving being half-hourly.

St Michaels, more in Aigburth towards Lark Lane and the parks etc., is twelve minutes and Aigburth itself (more affluent) is fifteen. It's easy and reliable.

If you're serious about Manchester, draw a line north to south through the centre on a map and choose just about anywhere west of that line over just about everywhere east of that line !!

Thank you for the info mate. I’m not in a massive rush so I’ve got time to sit and work it all out.

That all sounds good to me! Thanks ahah, it will be hard and one minute I can’t wait, the next I’m worried as I won’t know anyone.

But it’s something I want to do so gotta go through with it

The east is really that bad?😂
Depending upon your price bracket for housing... look at Urmston, Flixton, Sale, Timperley, Chorlton, Didsbury.
Chorlton is its own little microcosm area, really friendly, very diverse ethnically, loads of decent eateries... and well connected via bus or metro to the city centre.

I`d throw Fallowfield in there too, or East Didsbury as they`re now calling it lol

It`s benefited from the ripple effect of Didsbury.

East side is usually the bin of UK cities due to prevailing wind direction. Smoke and pollution blown over in older times. East Manc is pretty rough - not too many places you'd look to move there.
Manchester is a different feel to Liverpool - not as impressive looking, no public space in the centre (honestly not a blade of grass to be found), but there are prob more good areas to live. Run by grownups in the main which gives it other advantages.
Depends on what you're looking for.
