Moyes gives it straight - we can't compete with the big spenders

Assuming arteta and cahill are both injured, who do we rely on creating chances? Neville?

Don't get me wrong, I think we do need a fair few new players, especially when you think we've lost the likes of Kilbane, Pistone, Wright, Davies, Fernandes and Weir in the past year. Now sure, none of those are world beaters and few can argue that the quality of the first team has risen, we do seriously lack depth.

We are generally guessing at this stage as to what Moyes has up his sleeve. Maybe he sees the likes of Boyle, Vidarsson and Da Silva stepping up this season to challenge for first team slots. Maybe he has three or four signings in the pipeline that he's working on. I don't believe he's sat there twiddling his thumbs or selling knick knacks on Ebay to raise some cash.

This thread has all started because of his comment that the market is difficult at the moment. In the past week we've seen several players go for very high fees. Koumas for instance is a player we have been linked with that has gone for £5m. Who here seriously thinks that he's worth anywhere near that? Could Moyes not simply be saying that some of the players he has looked at (like Nugent and Koumas) have gone elsewhere because other clubs have been happy to pay silly money?

This is our money he's spending here guys, each and every fan that buys something from the club. If you're happy to see him piss it up the wall on some nomark then fair enough but for me, the fact that he's treating our money with respect is a good sign for our club.

I'm sure we all have our hopes and dreams for this summer but lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater simply because Moyes has said what we're all thinking and that some of these prices are simply ridiculous.

I hear what your saying the only problem for us is as the summer goes on there are going to be less quality players about that we can afford.
We deffo need at least 2 new signings though with europe, the african nations and injuries to deal with and i hope we get them cos it would be a shame to do the hardwork and qualify for europe and then not give it our best shot.

Lets look at some realistic targets that would enhance our squad:
Franck Quedre- 3m Tops, hes a solid left back that would definitely improve what we had in Nace.
Christian Wilhemson- 2-3m, can play on either flank and would again improve on what we had in Kilbane.
Carlo Nash- Free, even though hes moved on he is a better keeper than Wright as cover to Howard.

I would have even taken De Zeuw as a squad player to enhance our numbers and to bring experience to the squad. Even though he is 37 he would have been fine for a season.

I still believe there will be one big money signing, we have one every year and I believe this year will be no different. Who knows suits may even get his wish of Morten Gamst Pederson?!?!?

Well Rob Japan agrees with me in that he also believes that any more new faces are unlikely and Moyes statement IMo is a master of diplomacy. It is his ay of saying we have no cash so as not to upset BK etc.

The cash if there is any and there was acording to BK earlier in the yearis now being kept back for the new stadium. Kings Dock failed because we could not raise 50 mill.

As regards Moyes statement that we cannot compete with the big spenders of the prem, who does he mean......Fulham, Sunderland, West Ham, Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Wigan, Reading? He means we are skint, Jag was paid for by two going.

As the value of players, sorry but Bruce is talking out of his back end, a player like anything else is worth exactly what some one will pay, surely the clubs buying do not think they are over valued in fact the likes of Wigan and Pompey are chuffed getting those players at that price. They are investing in their teams for the new season something which we hardly doing and we face more games and more important fixtures than them. Do you think that with the likes of the teams above we will be getting 6 points off them with the new players they have taken on?

Moyes is putting a brace face on the failure to bring in new faces to strengthen the squad. We should be asking BK and his directors, the CEo and Wyness where is your ambition?

Leeds were happy paying big bucks for players and it didn't do them much good. Players have a worth based on their prowess on the field, not what someone is willing to pay.

As is often the case with situations like this people tend to fall into two camps, the optimists and the pessimists. Lets face it, we don't know the facts here, we have no idea how much money we have to spend, the players we have tried to sign or the players we are trying to sign. No idea at all, just the odd bit here and there and plenty of paper talk.

Some think the worst, some think the best. Personally I'd rather wait and see what happens. Moyes has by and large served this club very well and delivered above budget in the transfer market. Lets just see what happens before we jump to conclusions.

No way. Everton has been making bids and you don't make bids unless you are prepared for them to be accepted. He is in no way saying we have 'no' money.

Sports teams, doesn't matter which sport, are constantly evaluating their team and scouting for players to either improve there team or replace lost players (a break even scenario). Then they produce a list, and not a very short one I might add, from which you approach those players about joininng your club. If they accept, great but if they don't or the bidding goes to a point you are no longer willing to pay you move on to the next item.

cash doesnt equal ambition.

Big Bill said the £30 mill for our portion of the kings dock was ring fenced - its just a shame it was actually fenced off from the club.

All the other sides can buy new players, they have yet to prove to be equal to or better than what we DO have on our books currently (i reckon agbonlahor is better than young btw - and vaughan is better than both)

Wigan payed well over the odds for koumas, but thats because no player wants to play for wigan - cash was the incentive - thats why wigan are a side treading water - soon to be relegated.

Portsmouths revolving door policy may work short term but the stars they relied on so heavily last season (campbell, primus, kanu) are over 30 and will be retiring soon.

I personally guarantee moyes will add more than just jagielka this summer, £4million total spends for us would be the lowest amount we had spent in a sumemr in prem history? (not sure about this, but in relative terms it has to be)

Theres lots of talk about other sides strengthening, but no club can afford to keep 3 first teams, so everytime chelsea buy a new player the player he replaces becomes available - this happens everywhere - not just chelsea.

There are rich pickings in france as there has always been, there are a number of supposedly available players in spain that would be a marked step up, same goes for italy. What international is going to activley pursue a move to a dead end club like wigan or fulham or sunderland.

Lets let the 'copa' and the 'asian cup' finish and see how the transfer merry-go-round looks then.

Its no coincidence that he identified and signed his three targets early last summer and we did well the following season.

Before everyone starts getting on the bandwagon, I think this is a smokescreen to mask a belting signing.

I hope.

You could be right chico it could be jermaine jenas as spurs have signed that boetang bloke from hertha berlin

Would you be happy with Jenas mate? He doesnt to have seem to live up to his potential he had. Wouldnt say no for the right price but still disappointed we have seemed to have missed out on Fernandes.
