Moyes gives it straight - we can't compete with the big spenders

Me too pal. Seems like we will have to lower our sights.

Im not one to panic but I just hope that we have improved the team, and not the squad, by the end of August.

We [Poor language removed] up in the same way two years ago and paid the price.

This thread has all started because of his comment that the market is difficult at the moment. In the past week we've seen several players go for very high fees. Koumas for instance is a player we have been linked with that has gone for £5m. Who here seriously thinks that he's worth anywhere near that? Could Moyes not simply be saying that some of the players he has looked at (like Nugent and Koumas) have gone elsewhere because other clubs have been happy to pay silly money?

I've mention before I'm not concern if we cannot splash money on nugent, bent, koumas or some highly inflated players because I believe they are not worth the ridiculous money.
What made me react negatively is teams like blackburn(as poor fianancially as we are) are able to scout the oversea market and buy a promising dutch players for less than a million while moyes just set his narrow sight on England base players and whine when he cannot compete with the richer clubs. I'm pessimistic not because we have little or no money, I'm pessimistic because of the way the club approach their player recruitments method.

Come now, we don't know that Moyes 'moaned' about is. He was probably asked when were the big money signings coming into the club and responded to that question. I guess it's just a strategy that Moyes has. It seems every Tom, Dick and Harry picks up young players from abroad at the moment. Logic dictates that many of them won't live up to scratch simply because there aren't that many world beaters out there, and those that are tend to go for bigger fees. Moyes chooses to look a little closer to home and given the propensity of managers looking abroad it would suggest that some gems are being overlooked in the domestic market. It's worked ok thus far, although I'll admit that the squad does look very short of numbers and signing some decent cover on the cheap would be nice.

It'll probably be less risky if we get someone close to free and he's a regular of the U21 dutch national team with a cheap release clause than to pay ridiculous millions for koumas etc. If we are to be realistic, these young talented players are the one we should be buying.
Even if they don't make it (if you're trying to be pessimistic), I believe no one would complain as much as how wasteful it is for us to spend that much to buy BT. If they indeed turns out to be successful, who knows how big an impact they will make to our season.
