Speaking exclusively to PortuGOAL, Jones said that he wasn’t surprised at Pereira’s rise to one of the most prestigious jobs in Portuguese football:

“I was quite surprised when he went to be the assistant at Porto, actually. When I was there [Santa Clara] he was the first-team coach so I’ve always seen him as the top man.”

“When he was offered the Porto job I wasn’t surprised at all. He’s a great coach, he’s got a lot of ambition, and I’m sure he’ll do very well.” Jones started 21 of the team’s 30 league outings under Pereira, and had plenty of praise for his qualities as both a tacticianintelligent, focused guy.” and a man-manager: “He commands the respect of the players. He’s very professional in what he does. He’s a very intelligent, focused guy.”

Cheers for posting that. Obviously its from one of his players but its a ringing endorsement all the same and has a few nice buzzwords (tactician, ambitious, intelligent). Its weird (if its true) that VP was over visiting goodison months ago, with that cryptic bullshoite screenshot from evertonrumours.co.uk saying 'the managers chosen from a shortlist of one, not domestic based'. Its almost like Bill knows what he's doing (stop laughing)

I hate Evertonians on twitter. I like you guys but bloody twitter people are annoying and know eff all.

We would all like Pereira but lets be honest, we all know BK won't approach him.
They always bang on about him!

I would have thought that internal candidates (if they were serious ones) can be eliminated by virtue of the total lack of evidence (serious press speculation) - I believe this narrows the field down to Martinez and Pereira.

My gut feeling is that Pereira might be interviewed in advance of Martinez (giving Kenwright the option of choosing Martinez as "his preferred candidate" should RM become available) - interviewing Pereira first may leave him minded to give him the job (now) or wait to see if RM is willing to be interviewed. I suspect interviewing Pereira after the possibility of Martinez being interviewed and then rejecting Everton would be poor form (along the lines of "well, let's see the Wigan manager has turned us down shall we ask this league winner from Portugal instead?")
