whats with all this craze about vitor perreira? A manager should get credit for performing above expectations. To win the league with Porto is minimum requirement. Your in a two horse race in that league and he only just won it on the last day. Does that really make him a great manager? You could put my nan in charge of Porto next season and they would still guarantee to finish second. A manager should be judged on expectations of the club their at rather than trophies won.

Because again you could put a goat in charge of Celtic next season and they would still win everything because of the quality they are up against and porto is the same. If this Periera bloke won the league and all cups and a european trophy then i would give him credit but hes done F all really. I dont see this as a good appointment. Everton is a totally different kind of challenge than Porto. We need someone with premier league experience.

Martinez i believe has managed well above expectations. He has lost his best players every year. Somehow kept his team up so many times, plays attractive football and won a FA cup with Wigan. Thats achievement. Winning anything with Porto is just a minimum requirement at a club like that.

Surely people can see my logic

Stoke City will now target Roberto Martinez as D-day looms at Wigan - so will that prompt Everton's move? via @juliette_grace @philmcnulty 2 hours ago

What exactly is Martinez going to do/announce tomorrow?

Everton (and any other club, according to Whelan) have not made any approach for him.

Is he going to resign? Is he going to say to Whelan, 'I want to leave' and they mutually consent his departure?

If he does either of those things, Wigan don't receive any financial compensation at all. Martinez is under contract to Wigan until June 30th, 2014.

The more I think about this, the more I think this is all about trying to fish out Everton's (or any other clubs) interest in him. Martinez has probably already told Whelan's he's staying, unless there's interest from a Premier League club.

All this grandstanding by Martinez and Whelan makes no logical sense, because no-one has made an approach for him. It's all just media speculation.

Yeh it would be a bit strange to announce that he was going when he doesn't have an offer on the table. When he announced that he was staying this time last year he had the RS's offer to decide on.

Unless he does have an offer which hasn't been made public...

Go on then, name names?

Here's your options,

Michael Laudrup - Won't leave Swansea
Di Matteo
Steve Clarke
Roberto Martinez
Mark Hughes
Martin O'Neill
Tony Pulis
Rafael Benitez (go and jump of a bridge if you want that RS mungrel)

That's it.

Because he's managed them to consecutive league titles. He's lost one league game in 2 seasons, 60 games. He took them into the Champions League and got them out of the group stage. He's clearly no dummy and has some managerial talent. He deserves a chance to try his luck abroad, in the way Mourinho and AVB did. The only negative is he's not won a European trophy, but let's be honest, that shouldn't really play any part in him not getting the EFC job. We have to get into Europe first to worry about anything like that.

Also, people keep saying Portugal is a 2 horse race with Porto and Benfica, like Scotland. It's not. It has been the last 3 seasons, but before that Sporting Lisbon several times (05/06, 06/07, 08/09) and Braga (09/10) finished second.

It's a myth that people keep repeating that Portugal is always a 2 horse race between Porto & Benfica, when others teams have had a look in in recent seasons.

True, but if that was the case, Whelan wouldn't be bleating so much about having had no contact from anyone. He'd be blabbing like he did last year, when Liverpool made their approach and Martinez was pictured with John Henry in the U.S.
