If we bring in Pereira, we need an 'Everton' man as his No2.

Pereira will bring exciting and quick football, but with the small squad we still need the Moyes factor of getting the maximum out of every player.

If Pereira signs for Porto nothing we can do.. Except perhaps argue we missed the boat by p1ssing about. If he is the number 1 choice then go get him. Simple as that. Don't wait on Martinez if he's faffing around at Wigan, thinking about Stoke or cash strapped Malaga. Pereira would seem to be the best choice so, unless it is dependent on him choosing to stay at Porto (which is playing a dangerous game that would be typically naive of us) we should move NOW.

Good view on VP's performance and likelihood of joining EFC from Portuguese football writer here just in at tw4tter

Some "highlights"

"his track record in the Champions League was not the best - knocked out in the group stage against very accessible teams in 2011/12 and eliminated by Malaga in the Round of 16 in 2012/13"

:(

"there are always numerous rumours on the covers of Portuguese outlets (especially the sports papers) on any given day. You can find Jorge Jesus going to Chelsea, Manchester City, Everton, Sporting Lisbon or even FC Porto, depending on the day and/or the source (and usually the result of last weekend). Therefore, the link between Everton and Pereira always had a pinch of salt".

" Pereira is a man who wouldn't mind staying for a few years in the same club, as he lacks the ever-growing ambition of a certain José Mourinho, for instance. Also, he likes to take his time teaching young(er) players the ropes and integrate them in the team as a broader concept.

As a tactician, I believe he is one of the most competent around. His ability to create numerous variations of the same pattern made FC Porto highly uncomfortable to play against, since the team were perfectly aware of their tasks and when they should be performed.

(y)

As for his English-speaking abilities, I believe he can muster the odd sentence...
"

Pereira has been offered contract by Porto, and we are told EFC want to speak to number of candidates. It is a no brainer he signs new Porto deal.

I know what you mean mate but at the same time if his ambition is to manage in England as soon as possible, he will hang on another week. He has until 30 June on his contract with Porto so it wouldn't be out of the question. It makes it more difficult if Porto say here is the contract you need to decide within a few days or else we are withdrawing it and finding someone else. However, it is not completely out of the question.

Its more of a risk with candidates like Martinez who could get several good offers and each one would be a step from the Championship.

Not sure but I think VP's contract with Porto doesn't expire until the end of this month - approaching him before then without permission would be tapping up. Maybe that is the reason we won't act until next week?

If that was the case the same could be said about united tapping up Moyes! I think as long as they are out of contract at the end of the season they are free to talk to other clubs
