For those people who want Martinez, Steve Bruce finished 14th and 11th with Wigan before Martinez took over, So basically he took Wigan backwards. He suffered a 9-1 defeat to Spurs. He's been massively hyped since he was at Swansea because he was a young manager who won league 1 in his first full season and he's a likeable fella. Still a massive gamble on our part to take him.

Martinez it is then!! We were never going to get Pereira, looks to me, he and his agent were happy with the link and exposure as it seems it's increased his reputation.

Whoever comes in will have a target set by the board as follows:

40 Pts. Anything above that is gravy for the board of course the fans will have other ideas.

****s himself whenever we are winning a game, changes the tactics to desperately hold on, only to end up with a criminal draw/loss.

Or, we can appoint Martinez and just get dry bummed nearly three quarters of the season, consistently, for several years

To say Paul Jewell got them to 10th so this proves he did better than Martinez is ridiculous, every season is different. Paul Jewell also took Derby down with a record points LOW. Also, criticising Martinez cos they didn't blitz opponents like Bournemouth and Macclesfield en route to the FA Cup is bizarre, Wigan humiliated us at home and outplayed Man City in the final, swings and rounabouts at the end day

The consensus is Wigan play good football in front of half empty stadiums and with players like Gary Caldwell, he also gives youth a chance, none more so than to Callum McManaman who we let go. He's credited with beginning what Swansea are today, hardly evidence of a poor manager

Summary: comparing what another manager did at another time is silly

Not that silly, as it gives some context to the "Martinez is a great manager" claims. Whilst you can't directly compare the seasons, it's still a relevant comment, that the stats don't back up the claim that Martinez has been 'all that' at Wigan.
