Im willing to give Martinez a chance, hes not my first choice but hes up there in my top 5 list. If he can keep the likes of baines and fellaini (part of the core nucleus of our team) and attract one or two top players then we will be in with a real chance. Lets be honest here, relegation worry is long gone.

Yeah it's bloody dragging on now...

Sure bill is doin on purpose now to keep us on SSN. Or to make it look like Martinez wasn't always the no.1 choice.
What's the big rush? The players are all away on holidays and Moyes is contracted for another few weeks. Pre-season doesn't start for another 6 weeks. The transfer market is moribund. Bring in a new manager now and he will be paid to go on holidays. Bill is doing alright.

Sky reported that Bill hopes to announce the new manager by next weekend. Another wait on the cards, fella's. There must be something really big he's considering here, usually wouldn't take this long.

I think Martinez has earned his right to manage a bigger club than Wigan, i'm just not convinced it should be Everton he takes over. Still clinging to the Vitor dream.

I wouldn't have wanted him.

His league record isn't all that good. His cup record prior to this season isn't all that good.

His style, of football and behaviour, is one I like but the only reason I'm supporting is that he managed to produce a top class performance in a cup final vs a much bigger team.

It's that ability to calm the players down on the big ocassion and get them to perform at 150% that I like and if he didn't show that in the final, then the overall package isn't strong enough.

But he did, so it is.

Would you say the win over City is more impressive than the win over Barca and subsequent qualification to the knock out stage?

Lennon clearly has the ability to motivate as well

I can't think of a comparable big win for the other two

The gulf between Celtic and Barca was much vaster than Wigan and City IMO

This, if he builds on what Moyes has created and puts his stamp on it rather than take it apart and restart I'll be made up regardless of who it is.
We have a good enough team to do well with all but the worst of managers now.

Everton i'll give you, although helped by the fact our players almost to a man had their worst game of the season (and some their worst for several seasons).

But Millwall?! Seriously? Premier League managers get special credit for beating near bottom of the table Championship clubs now??

And City, yeah they did well, but City played very poorly.

Even if their cup run had been like ours in 09 (one of the toughest runs to a final I've ever seen), it's nowhere near as relevant as full league season performances.

Agreed. The platform is there, we just need to build on it and any manager will always have the chance to succeed at Everton

But the difference is Barca still won that group. They didn't need to beat Celtic to do so.

Lennon is a walking timebomb as far as I'm concerned. Don't want him anywhere near Goodison unless it's as a visiting manager.
