The market for the new manager is currently very fluid. I wouldn’t pay too much notice to it. It is a remarkably open debate at the moment, which I put down to 3 factors.

1) A quite wide disagreement over the reign of David Moyes.
2) A disagreement about where Everton are currently
3) People not really understanding how Kenwright will conduct the process (as it’s happened infrequently)

If we consider the first point. Clearly the majority of fans think Moyes had done a fantastic job, and is a club legend. However there is certainly a very vocal minority, who feel he could have done a better job. Even within those who support his reign like myself, we can see that there were clearly areas for development.
People’s criticisms include, an unwillingness to play youth, conservatism in formations, an overly defensive style, not winning at top 4 teams, not winning trophies. Those in his favour point out his league performances being significantly above the money we pay in wages and transfers.
At one extreme, you have people who want a continuity. This might be with a similar style of manager (Malky Mackay) or continuity within the club (Stubbs, Weitr or Neville).
Those who want quite a sharp change in philosophy, will look at the areas the club his struggled. They may be bringing in a foreign coach (Tuchel,Pereira) or perhaps looking at a manager who was won a lot of trophies (Benitez).

When we consider the second point, this causes the most consternation. On the one hand, people point out we are an ageing squad, that has over-achieved, is without any financial clout, will be losing their best players this summer, and is on a hiding to nothing.
On the other, you have people who point out, we have a very talented squad, with a first team capable of beating anybody this season. While the funds are limited the TV money, plus a high price for the top players will provide funds which a new manager can add to an already strong squad. When Fellaini has not been fit, Everton have not suffered as much, and 25 million pounds could provide a great opportunity.
However, those who argue against this, point out all clubs will have increased revenue in the PL, so any increase will be cancelled out by inflation.
It is not clear just how attractive a proposition Everton are. Some people, clearly think we could attract people like Benitez, even Klopp, while at the other extreme some think we’d do well to attract Malky Mackay or Martinez. While it’s fair to say one is pie in the sky, and the others are “showing no ambition”, such responses are a little unfair. All fans would like to show ambition, and all fans would like to be realistic. But it is very difficult to fully understand just how attractive a proposition Everton would be.

On the third point, Kenwright, as with most chairman is something of a wild card. He hasn’t done this very often. When we appointed Moyes, we were in a panic situation, heading out of the league, off the back of a recommendation by Smith. The same situation is not occurring, so it’s hard to see how we can get a “read” off this.

As for me, I would like a European coach. The increase in revenue is a mute point for other managers at English clubs, but not for clubs on the continent. Tuchel would be an ideal choice. Lauren Blanc is currently out of work. Other names such as Van Basten, De Boer and the former Basel manager should also be considered.

Easy for you to say that mate

I would like to see someone a bit different for a change like Vitor Pereira.

Me too mate, would make plenty of sense.

But according to the Echo we aren't even going to bother interviewing anyone but Martinez.

Baaaaaaaad.

....who knows who will be good and who will be bad, but I really think direct from foreign is high risk. Different culture and all of that means it will be so, so difficult. I'm content if Martinez is the only name in the frame but why is he such a tantalising price with the bookies?

I disagree mate, investment helps but it's not impossible for a big club to move forward without it.

This team has done well but has still underachieved. I don't care what everyone keeps telling us when they are given little old Everton a patronising rub on the head.

I know what I see on the pitch and that's a good team who were well capable of beating Leeds in the CC, Wigan, Fulham and City in the FA Cup and could also of got in there amongst the top 4.

I'm hoping with a more adventurous manager who goes to win games, gives the youth more of a chance, builds up expectations at the club and is prepared to manage by buying low, selling high we can progress to the Champions Lge and the added riches that brings.

Can I get a "Hallelujah" on this?

Agreed but where we are now is a lot better than when we appointed Moyes......so we should have different criteria

If we aspired, Bill would've been hounded out years ago...don't get it twisted. The fact is a good chunk of Evertonians are sh*t scared of what "could be" and have been, for a long time. We're a club with cancer that's in remission (on the field)...wary of bad news and constantly looking over the shoulder. You can only operate that way for so long and then you go insane. This thread, Bills conduct over time and the massive mood swings of Evertonians just proves it...quite a few are going mental. We can't keep operating this way, everyone knows it.

I'm outta' this cess pool until things are definitive.

He's had sweet FA to spend and kept
That tiny club in the premiership for few yrs til a week ago. They play great footy and in their day can beat the best. He's probably going to get better, he's the standout candidate for a club in our position. He's already turned down villa and Liverpool if we get him ill be made up

29% win ratio, 51 wins and 78 losses in a 175 games is not good enough for any manager in PL. I don't give a **** about money, his football etc. He cannot see his failures and would rather loose by 8 than win by scrapping

So who would you like to take over then, what criteria are you looking for?

A track record as a manager and a bit of passion thrown in. For me it's Neil Lennon. I don't know enough about these foreign names to comment but some obviously have great credentials. Of the British/Irish crew it's Lennon for me. Saying that I would be like a kid in a sweet shop if it was Duncan.

If people are going to say "relegation isn't an argument against Martinez" then you are saying that you are going going to ignore concrete realities.

Yes Klopp got relegated, but it doesn't mean it's a good thing. That logic is a bit like saying if you ran a business, you would not see employing a former prisoner as a problem, because some ex prisoners have turned their lives around. Clearly it's a major problem.

That is not to say, that he doesn't have positive points. But getting relegated doesn't make him Klopp. Klopp also did a much better job than Martinez.

And yes Jewel had a better team. but he had a lower wage bill, so he obviously recruited better than Martinez. I actually think Wigan have quite a good team. I think they are better than norwich, Stoke, Southampton etc, but have been managed poorly.

In the end, I'd hope Everton in the top 6, could find a manager a lot better than a guy who has just relegated a team
