He earns that much because he deserves it, he has stabilized the club and pushed us to do as well as possible.

I just hope Jelavic can do it over a season and isn't a flash in the pan we've seen in the Prem before at other clubs.

But Harry is right and thats my main issue : the type of football we play, the way we line up and the attitude we have will determine how well he does.
He would not of scored those same goals for us in the first half of last season if we had him. Of course we might of played differently but only time will tell what happens next season.

If Jelavic has a great season scoring lots of goals - another club will come in for him and take him and Moyes will sign it off as he always has.

There's no way around this I'm afraid: Moyes is complicit in the managed decline of Everton. He has been since he was floored back in 2009 by the failure (again) of the board to get behind hs squad building that got us to a final with Chelsea. Moyes had a big decision to make at the time: put up or shut up. He chose the latter and he's very well paid for it. I read now he's insisting on getting back to the sell-to-buy sunny uplands that he previously grazed in. I think we all know, though, that if he signs a new contract and players are sold with only a fraction handed back for transfer activity Moyes will accept it.

Moyes has no backbone or principle for me. I know it's supposed to be his thing, but I see a feller who'll just put up with a lot of shit as long as he's patted on the head and praised (and paid handsomely). I dont think I'm alone in thinking that either, despite all the propagada about how loved he is.

He deserves to be the 11th highest paid manager on the planet..????

When every one above have won everything??

Have you seen our football over theblast 10 years...??

He keeps the board happy by keeping in the prem. An they keep him happy with huge wages...

Its a vicious circle...

Dunno if you've suggested a replacement or not, but who is better than Moyes? Keeping in mind i don't think Kenwright has the pulling power/money to get anyone better imo.

I can't see Moyes signing a new contract just yet. If he does then a lot of that will be thanks to the promising young players we have at the club, such as Barkley, Green, Vellios etc.

You're certainly a glass half empty person. We've beaten every team in the league, reached finals and europe under Moyes. Compare that with all but Joe Royle's cup winners over the last 25 years and it's an improvement, especially given that we were one of the richest clubs in the league back in the eighties.

The club doesn't have the money to put into the playing staff. Would you prefer that we 'did a Portsmouth' and over-committed ourselves or that Moyes walked? You seem to be under the impression that Kenwright is sitting on a pile of cash and telling the manager that he can't have any. Where do you get that idea from?

Im sure he could get us relagated, if you really want.
Its a vicious circle...

I find it hard to defend his wages tho, I mean considering his wages have zero impact on how he does his job, not sure why people feel the need to focus on that aspect.

To be honest, Moyes has played hideously out-of-form regulars in preference to allowing two of those three players game time to gain experience, so you don't get the impression that he's that excited by them at all.

His wages will be determined by factors such as loyalty. Every time he signs a new contract there will be a pay increase naturally. His value to the club will also come into it. He buys players cheaply that are sold on for a large profit, he attracts high-profile internationals like Donovan and Heitinga as well as youngsters such as Green and he keeps us competitive on a micro budget. So if we want to keep him from walking we need to offer a competitive level of remuneration.

I don't think it's that he doesn't rate them. It's just that he's painfully slow bringing young players through. Rodwell and Anichebe have been around the squad for 3-6 years but they're still not fully established.

Perhaps because he's always spouting off about not having any to spend on the team, while taking Scrooge-McDuck-style swims in piles of the stuff himself. Plus his wages represent over 6% of our wage bill. Therefore people will have expectations regarding his performance based on these rewards.

I firmly believe that any Manager should be the highest paid member of staff at every football club.

And its not his fault we are skint, maybe if our Board members invested money into the team, instead of spending it in Casinos, he wouldnt have to complain.

I absolutely agree on both those points.

I would imagine, though, there are very few clubs where the manager is the best paid, however.

Time to stop playing the board off against Moyes and vice versa: they're all in this together. No use attacking one without the other. Those days are over. Moyes is part of the decision making process to sell part of his squad when he's requested to. Always has been and always will be. He backs the chairman's way of doing things. He wont tolerate fans or any media criticisng the chairman or board. He wont condemn the board's lack of investment or commercial performance. He gets the type of pay that a banker awarding himself bounuses gets for keeping his mouth shut and the team safe from danger.
