Moyes to Sunderland

To be honest, we could have been consistently in the top 4. How many times were we literally spanking teams but not scoring. We did have a good team under Moyes. 2 good teams in fact. However, it was also Moyes's mentality that held us back. He's not a winner and couldn't inspire the team to take the next step

“I see Everton as a very similar club to Sunderland,” Moyes said.

In a nutshell, that's Moyes' attitude to Everton while he was here summed up: a nothing club who were lucky to have him.

And now look at him - two sackings later and at the foot of the table with his new club.

Time for him to be a little bit more humble about his meagre talents.

He has a point. Look at Leicester last season. Had Moyes stayed who's to say that might not have been us. We had some brilliant midfielders during his time with us. We needed a striker and a top keeper, but you also need those other factors to come into play such as Ferguson retiring, Chelsea melting down, City having an injury crisis to have had any chance. Top 4 would have been more reasonable.

David Moyes claims he could have won the Premier League if he had stayed at Everton

Town.
the only reason that would never happen is down to david moyes.

It was him stopping us from being succesful, not the team, the board or the fans. It was the manager who quite often put teams out in fear of the opposition, whether it was kopites, chelsea or reading.

Year before he went we gave reading their first win, in november, we almost gave QPr theirs as well. Simply being being scared of them. When we played the derby, moyes must have imagined playing daglish, keegan, rush and co rather than biscan, traore, adam and co.

So yeah, how were we going to win the league when at least 5 games a season we were hanging on for dear life before we had even kicked off?

I think you're being overly harsh there mate.

Are you old enough to remember us prior to Moyes arriving?

I had the misfortune of watching some awful stuff in the years before we got rid of Walter. Moyes instantly turned that attitude of the club around. Things may have got stale at the end, but as a few posters have said he built a great side from very little resources. It annoys me and makes us look small time I think when people go on like he was a reason for us under achieving. We went from persistent relegation candidates to regular European competition entrants with a negative net spend. Yes you can argue the rooney money made this happen, but it shows what wise purchases moyes made with it.

I will always appreciate his efforts and give him a warm welcome when he comes to gp.

I remember watching us back when he had no real investment in his team and getting to february and just thinking the same thing every single time. It isn't harsh mate it is as i saw it. The reason why we never got past that glass ceiling was moyes conceding so many points every signle season. It was the persistence of playing the same players in the same formation every single week and hoping things would change. We played saha and cahill as our attackers in his second to last season, they score like 2 between them yet weren't dropped.

But even years before that, he built some good teams, then bottled it at the time it mattered. Far too defensive when he didn't need to be. Even out 4th place in 2005, we got it because liverpool let us get there. They should have taken it off us and were even worse in the run in than us and gifted it to us.

Oh and said it before, is it not funny Moyes could not get higher than 5th in the league with us then takes over the league champions and finishes.....fith? It is his limit, he will never have the ability to manage at a higher level than that, he proved it over 11 years here.

No mate. It's Moyes.

Totally agree with this. We had a great team and Moyes has to take credit for that. Would have done a lot better if Moyes didn't cack his pants everytime we played away to a decent team however. Think he's lost it now. Talks some amount of guff these days and seems bitter. Of the things I liked about him was the way he spoke to the media but now he looks like an angry strangled chicken.
