So what happened? Was he linked with the man u job and then you offered him a contract and he just stung you along and then confirmed he was going to man u.
Or did he turn it down and then go to man u. And agree he should have either signed or leave.
Twice when he was with us his contract came up for renewal.
On both occasions, early in 2008 and again in 2013, he refused to sign. And on both occasions we were laying third or fourth in the table, with a great chance of qualifying for CL football.
On the first occasion the news of the contract negotiations came to light in March and, whether as a result of the procastinations or not, the team lost its focus and we faded away.
We had three particularly bad results in a row.....losing to Fulham away and scraping a draw home to Hammers the next week, Easter Saturday.
Then we lost at Anfield.
That more or less counted us out.
The bad form carried over into the start of the following season when unbelieveably the contract issue had still not been resolved.
IIRC he did not sign until the autumn, October possibly.
My own view of the delay on that occasion was that he thought Gordon Strachan was going to be fired at Celtic as they were struggling in the league, a good bit behind Rangers.
Rangers collapsed on the run in, Celtic nicked the title and Wee Gordon was saved.
That is what I think anyway.
Then in January 2013 we were sitting pretty in the top four with what we like to call in this parish "a run of favourable fixtures" coming down the pike.
Moyes publicly refused to sign and once more these contract talks overshadowed the team and once more focus was lost and once more we faded away from CL placings.
In the midst of this we had a cup tie at home to Wigan which resulted in one of the mist embarrassing home displays we have seen here this century.
Hindsight tells us this downslide on the pitch and lack of focus off it was being played out against overtures from Alex Ferguson for Moyes to succeed him at OT.
Because in the April and allegedly " out the blue", Ferguson retires and the deal for Moyes is already in place.
Now, my gripe is not so much with Moyes.....he acted as he always does, in his own best interests and in that respect who can fault him.
You guys are already finding this out about him.
The culprit here, as with so much that has been wrong with EFC since the Millennium is Mr. William Kenwright.
IMO he should have laid it down on the table for Moyes......sign this contract or clear you desk.
Simple as.
Bill knew how Moyes had strung us along first time round.....the second time situation should not have been allowed to develop the way it did, if you ask me.
