Moyes to Sunderland

2-0 up against Palace - not much of an excuse. If it were a good side you'd understand a bit more. Not sure he managed that in all his time as our manager (perhaps he did, anyone remember?)

Not this fan, Dave.

I raged on here about him being allowed to stay here and effectively manage two clubs for a month or two......time spent working out his he could entice our two star men to follow him.

Shameful.
...and give Osman a new contract, make Jagielka captain, and attempt to install one of his FF cone layers as manager.

A shameful period. As soon as he piped up about leaving Everton he should have had his FF office cleared out and his bags packed and waiting for him at the gate. That's how a proper big club would have reacted to that information, not get down on its hands and knees and let him walk all over us for another three months.

It was absolutely pitiful.

In fact, he should have been told to sign the contract he was offered in the January or clear his desk.

We were mounting a serious top four challenge at that time but Moyes strung us along and obviously lost focus because the team started to fall away from March onwards, reaching its nadir with the Wigan cup tie.

Spot on.

Spot on Dave, a black time in the conduct of the Everton board. Hands up BK!

So what happened? Was he linked with the man u job and then you offered him a contract and he just stung you along and then confirmed he was going to man u.

Or did he turn it down and then go to man u. And agree he should have either signed or leave.

He got offered the chance to manage the best team in the land so jogged us on.

I have no ill feelings regarding this.

Basically the tale of the tape is this

He said he would decide his future at the end of the season. (11 years in, that is fair enough)

then when it came to offering a contract instead he was announced as Ferguson's successor

then proceeded to be united manager in spirit whilst also managing everton.

Before then going to united officially and his prime targets were everton players.

I think a lot of greviance still to this day is basically the fact he knew he was leaving and despite having a fantastic chance of getting somewhere with us and keeping everything quiet, he was walking whether or not he done anything that season, which incidentally resulted in a humiliating 3-0 defeat to wigan, the last game neville ever played for us.

He knew long before January he was going to United at the end of the season. He lowered expectations that much we let him stay until his contract ended and the fans acted like Portsmouth's divvy fans and gave him a heroes send off

Twice when he was with us his contract came up for renewal.

On both occasions, early in 2008 and again in 2013, he refused to sign. And on both occasions we were laying third or fourth in the table, with a great chance of qualifying for CL football.

On the first occasion the news of the contract negotiations came to light in March and, whether as a result of the procastinations or not, the team lost its focus and we faded away.

We had three particularly bad results in a row.....losing to Fulham away and scraping a draw home to Hammers the next week, Easter Saturday.

Then we lost at Anfield.

That more or less counted us out.

The bad form carried over into the start of the following season when unbelieveably the contract issue had still not been resolved.

IIRC he did not sign until the autumn, October possibly.

My own view of the delay on that occasion was that he thought Gordon Strachan was going to be fired at Celtic as they were struggling in the league, a good bit behind Rangers.

Rangers collapsed on the run in, Celtic nicked the title and Wee Gordon was saved.

That is what I think anyway.

Then in January 2013 we were sitting pretty in the top four with what we like to call in this parish "a run of favourable fixtures" coming down the pike.

Moyes publicly refused to sign and once more these contract talks overshadowed the team and once more focus was lost and once more we faded away from CL placings.

In the midst of this we had a cup tie at home to Wigan which resulted in one of the mist embarrassing home displays we have seen here this century.

Hindsight tells us this downslide on the pitch and lack of focus off it was being played out against overtures from Alex Ferguson for Moyes to succeed him at OT.

Because in the April and allegedly " out the blue", Ferguson retires and the deal for Moyes is already in place.

Now, my gripe is not so much with Moyes.....he acted as he always does, in his own best interests and in that respect who can fault him.

You guys are already finding this out about him.

The culprit here, as with so much that has been wrong with EFC since the Millennium is Mr. William Kenwright.

IMO he should have laid it down on the table for Moyes......sign this contract or clear you desk.

Simple as.

Bill knew how Moyes had strung us along first time round.....the second time situation should not have been allowed to develop the way it did, if you ask me.

:)
