We practically couldn't buy without selling for over a decade under Kenwright, even without paying for a stadium and without the more vigorous FFP restrictions.... (who incidentally has also been chairman throughout the current situation).

We are now having to pay over half a £billion for a stadium, when we could've had a slightly bigger and better located stadium 20 yrs ago, pretty much for what we got for Wayne Rooney.... who we also had to sell because we were practically bankrupt with the "wolves at the door".
Don't disagree Tom but the fact is that if he can fund completion of the stadium then that is good for the future, other than that we have a sizeable debt once again and it sounds like the stadium funding will initially be further debt. it is kind of better in one sense but on the pitch we are abysmal and there is no money for players until we sell, so a hard road ahead.

We will sign players but will have to sell. Moshiri can't fund the completion of the stadium never mind breaking FFP for transfers. It is not only wise to sell before we buy, we will not be buying otherwise.

We'll possibly never know the real answer to this question but there is a difference between operational costs and a stadium build. LOR will want invoices paid that run into the hundreds of millions in one go. Bearing in mind the budget for this stadium started at 300 million and will be 700 by the time it is finished. If it was your money you would want to reduce the risks by sharing the costs too.

That's opposed to if say the best player we could possibly sign became available for 20 million then imho the funds would probably found to make that 7 million or whatever down-payment. You can see a big difference between the two.

The reason we won't fully know the answer to this is that even if MSP or another came in and said here is 100 million for the stadium and 50 for players we'd still have to sell players as we have to start balancing the books to make us 1) more sellable due to less debt and give the owners an opportunity to invest in the squad after any takeover or 2) give Moshiri that same chance to invest once the stadium has been finished and our income has increased so perhaps we can sustain a spending spree this time instead of getting Ancelotti, buying him a few decent players and then saying well if you don't get Europe then that's your lot.

Besides we've been stockpiling gash for years so we need a clear out.

I can only imagine the state we would be in if the new stadium was not in the mix.
In spite of the mess we are in the stadium , the fan base and the history of the club and all that goes with it should make Everton attractive to potential buyers.... competent ones.

I agree. I might be completely wrong on this one but I think the stadium (whether we stay up or go down) is our life raft. I don't see it as a mill stone at all, the way others do. A new stadium (albeit it has to be paid for) 50,000 regulars, historic club which has underperformed for decades due to it being badly run, all makes us saleable, IMHO.

We're like a rundown house in a really desirable area. It's been occupied by some mad recluse for as long as anyone can remember. The owner has got 30 cats and hasn't washed the net curtains since the 1970's. Needs money throwing at it but somebody will spot the potential. That's us.

I also don't disagree with that part of your assessment. I've been saying for years that the whole stadium financial plan is complete smoke and mirrors and have been castigated for it several times..... most (including myself to some degree) have happily turned a blind eye to it because the general concensus was that it was primarily underpinned by a naming rights deal that could've theoretically been almost anything for USM to cover. Thus covering any financial shortfall and balancing the viability equation. Of course that is no longer the case and has now all come home to roost..... which combined with the increased costs, calamitous on-field performance and loss of that backer is something of a perfect storm. Of course, while on-field and infrastructure investment are fundamentally separate financial systems they are also inextricably linked, especially when overall resources become finite and/or subject to legislation. So, I think the great hope now is probably that any "new stadium effect" can package the club to appeal to someone with much deeper pockets to absorb those debts. MSP only appear to me to be a short/medium term solution to get past the first hurdle in that process.... while hopefully injecting some expertise into a very highly paid, but entirely unqualified boardroom. I could be wrong and MSP may have greater long term ambitions

Honestly can’t see why people are so excited for a new ground. What is a new ground going to do to our youth system? Scouts? Coaches? Manager? Players? Board room? Debt? Nothing is that what we’ve been missing the last 28 years a new stadium? No wonder we haven’t won anything why didn’t we think of that sooner.

We do need a new ground. And have done for 30 years. But, I agree we should be doing all of those other things as well. Let's hope we get new money and new blood in soon and transform the club lock, stock and barrel.

It is going to bring in more money and more money helps all the other things.

Honestly why have we blew over £500 million and nothing to show for it? How much more money do we need to help all the other things? Acting like we’re still in the moyes era where we had nothing a billionaire invested and we’re worse than we was 10 years ago. Of the board aren’t gone nothings going to change new stadium or not, and if we go down then what?
