Just "got hold of" and watched a full replay of Bosnia - Argentina (1-2) from the World Cup. Kept a close watch on Besic for 90 minutes, and to put it simply, he's a brilliant player. Martinez co-commented the game for ESPN, and he had some pretty interesting comments on Besic throughout the game.
Martinez on Besic against Argentina:
(Talking about Argentina's attacking qualities)"…but pay attention to Besic, number 7, he's gonna be the man to stop Messi on getting in that position, and for someone so young, it's one of the biggest games of his career."
(Besic stops a dangerous counter attack) "Straight away you can see that this game is gonna be won or lost on how well the Bosnia Herzegovina back four with Besic in front can cope with Aguero and Messi."
(Besic rushes in and tackles Messi in the box) "Fantastic play from Besic. Remember we mentioned that he's gonna have the biggest role of it all. He comes with a very quick cover to come into Lionel Messi's magical left foot, and that defensive tackle is as good as it gets."
(Co-commentator): "He's got plenty of touches on the ball in the first half, Muhamed Besic." (Roberto): "I've been so impressed so far. I know the player well, I've seen him playing with the under 21s, born in Germany, he's more a centre half, he's a leader, but obviously such a young man to be able to fill that role. It's quite exiting to see how he develops… in the rest of the game." (dropping a little hint at the end there?)
(Besic with an awful shot from 30 yards) "Obviously, the manager is not happy, but he's allowed to make a wrong decision. He's been, so far, flawless in everything that he's done. As a young man, he's going for the wrong option there, but he's had such an impressive game so far that you can allow him to have that sort of decision in that area."
(Besic with another poor shot from distance) "Well, he's already had more shots than any other player in his team. As you can see here, the technique is all wrong, the ball is always going away from the target. It's more what you would call a hopefull shot rather than a meaningfull shot, but don't take away his enormous defensive work that he is doing for his team, Besic."
(On Besic towards the end of the game) "I always felt that his best position was at centre half. After this display I'm not too sure."
