I'd take Mo over Barry at the moment. Although Barry was a quality player last year, he's only very rarely shown shades of what he's capable of this season. There's moments when I just look at the energy and drive he has and just shake my head. I saw him stand on the edge of the box (attacking the park end) Vs. West ham in the FA Cup last week, and he actually stopped with the ball and stood still.

Then in contrast to that, against City he actually looked pretty good. As the guys from Citytalk reckon though, I think that might just be because it was a former club and he had that extra bit of drive behind him to do well. I would never have given him a 3 year deal.

Mo is a breathe of fresh air to be honest and I enjoy watching him play. He has a hunger to get better and so far I've seen him improve game on game this season. He's young and will make mistakes, but I think he'll grow into a great player for us.

Mo wishes he was half the player Barry is, he has the talent to be better, but he'll of a long way to go.

I doubt any player in England wishes they were Barry with his form since his injury. I don't besic will ever turn his back on shots in case they hurt him. Barry does every time. Besic wouldn't turn his back on a bullet .... Bang bang bang ...... he'd slide tackle em

Barry's an excellent player mate, his career speaks for himself and how quick we are to bin players - how quickly we forget he was our lynch pin last season.

Besic will be doing well to have the career Barry has had - he has the tools to better.

It just irks me, turning on Barry who has been superb for us, we're Evertonians Ffs.

No prob with him last year. Dead decent player who had a great career. However entitled to my opinion he for me is slowing down our play and his efforts of last 15 years have for me caught on him. Not saying he's suddenly turned into a bad player just not anywhere near last season's form esp after his injury. And turning his back on shots bugs the he'll outta me. Had a good game against city though. Besic and mc car thy our future

You can't just keep playing him on merit though. A quality player last season, yes. This season he's really showing his age though, and there aren't any signs that this is going to improve. I think everyone saw how great of a season he had last year and very much appreciate the shifts he put in week in week out. But this year, he's a weak link no doubt about it. I feel a little similar about Distin, but that's a subject for another thread!

Yeah agree there, besic and McCarthy are the future. Both lack the tactical awareness of Barry at the mo for me due to their impetuous and energy - that's fine. Barry in fact was the same at that age many forget he started as a left back, then left midfeilder, then box-box midfielder before moving to deep centre.

I don't blame Barry or think he's lost any of his ability, he's played almost every game for us, we've absolutely flogged him, thus knackering prob one of our best players, injuries havnt helped.

But I don't think the criticism lies with him.

If someone's been crap just come out and say it. We're not a cult of super fans, we should be calling the game as we see it.

Last season has been and gone, this term Barry has cost us massively IMO. I actually think the manager ought to shoulder the blame for the way he's been handled, he's played pretty much every game he's been available for. Ludicrous for someone his age.

Or sell him to La Galaxy.

He was struggling towards the end of last season, the cup game against arsenal in particular, he has been woeful this season and been shown some bizarre favourtism from the manager, the criticism is fully justified
