But Martinez insists he is more than happy with the former Ferencvaros player, and says his progress in nine months of playing Premier League football is “magnificent.”

“Mo is a phenomenal character, first and foremost,” Martinez told the ECHO.

“When you assess Mo Besic as a footballer you need to look into his character. He is someone you can rely on and someone you can build a special future on.

“The reality is that Mo has come from a different league and so to arrive into the Premier League and play the amount of games he has done is magnificent.

“And then becoming a master of a new position is going to take a bit of time. “

But Martinez feels that with another pre-season working with Besic then Everton can will start to see marked improvements next term.

He added: “But Mo is someone how has played a lot of football this season and his experiences are helping him develop all the time and he’s probably ahead of where I expected him to be.

“He is still a very young player and the best is still to come, especially with another pre-season under his belt.”

Another player wasted because we don't play to his strengths. Could be a top holding mid in the Matic type mode with aggression, skill and speed. Instead when he's played we've paired him with Barry and he's done nothing more really than shuffle the ball around and badly at that. QPR home game saw Barkley in his natural position and Besic next to him in his and it was their two best performances of the season. Watching Besic trying to conserve possession alongside Barry and McCarthy is painful and is a waste of a good player.

basically what I said to another poster who thought Martinez didnt rate him. Just easing him in due to the transition from Hungarian league CB to a Prem CM.

That's it mate, the prem is a tough league to get an hang of for the best of players, but to come in from a poor league like the Hungarian and play a position you was only getting used to playing in for Bosnia ahead of a World Cup, takes some doing.

He's done well in that position and will get better with experience and time. He does need to refine his game abit and not take as many chances in possesion, like when he does drag backs in tight positions with men around him, or try and take too many men on in certain parts of the pitch and if he gets that right along with one or 2 other things then he'll turn out a class act!

Why does everything have to be negative ?
Besic can be a top midfielder in coming years but is not there at the moment. The manager is right not to play him.
It seems that he is being groomed as a defensive midfielder. I think he is being groomed as Barrys replacement, to sit in front of the back four , to give protection to the defence and then to receive the ball when in possession and start our play going forward from a central position . He is not ready to play that role yet and Barry(after a very poor start to the season with many others) is presently far better in that roe for the team.
