Most of the midfield combinations including Barry and McCarthy haven't worked this season. I'd agree if we're playing tippy tappy he might not be effective but what did Barry do against United? Sat deep, won the ball, played it forward, absolutely no reason Besic couldn't do this and be part of a counterattacking midfield.

I really think he would take us to another level beyond Barry. Besic and McCarthy in front of Jags and Stones, you're talking about Chelsea levels of defensive solidity there. Sort the keeper and we'd have one of the best defensive units in the league.

All joking apart its a shame he hasnt played as much as he should, but hes still played 20+ games, which isnt bad for his first season.
I know at 1 point Barry was utter garbage, but I personally feel Barry does a better job even still, you would imagine going forward, as Barry ages even more that he would start phasing Besic into the starting 11. Its difficult to know what Martinez "best" formation is and where he is looking to go next season, but Besic for me should be 1 of the first names on the team sheet by the turn of the year.
I just hope he is "learning" from sitting on the bench and is willing to sit it out for another 6months, would be a crying shame to lose him, which is another reason that I really hope we dont sign Cleverley.

Great potential but not ready yet, even by his own admission
We need to be careful we don't build this kid up to much, as to much to soon may hamper his development in the year to come
I think next season he will start to get more games and start showing the potential we all can see.
As I say it depends how we line up in the future, ive noticed the last few weeks McCarthy playing slightly more advanced, infront of Barry.
Of course hes ready, hes not the finished product, but would defo grace most midfields in world football.

Great potential but needs a little more time to appreciate the pace of the game.
