No comparison imho, Barry is the far better footballer and is still vital to the way we play.

For long term success though he has to be given minutes, like Barkley, where he is allowed to make mistakes. The issue though is that mistakes in the areas he picks up the ball - from Howard with the cb's split - is pretty unforgiving as we saw with Osman against S'land last season.

His progress will be slow I think because his role is so specialist which again gets in the way of a possible loan as no other teams seem to play like we do. Nearest I've seen to the team's below us is Norwich under Neil.

Cant agree there fella Barry summed up everything we can expect from him at Spurs away when Kane picked his pocket leading to a goal.
Besic may also make the same mistake , but he's young and will learn whereas Barry will be caught out more and more as he gets older.
No contest for me Besic always looks for the forward pass Barry has the turning circle of the QE2 and constantly passes sideways or back.

Besic actually made 31 apps this season which was just 2 less than his most ever in a season. He is only 22 though. Hopefully he'll be closer to a starter next season and Barry can be phased out.

If that's the case then I seriously worry about our future with him in the team. He's a liability and in my opinion brings nothing to the team that besic can't. Hopefully someone on crack will offer us a fee for Barry and we'll accept.

Different ends of their careers these two players, difficult comparison.

One has been very good, one will be very good.

Neither are world beaters at present.

Besic had a decent season. I love his work rate and his desire to put in a tackle plus his passing range is very good.

I'm not sure whether he'll be a starter next year because even if Barry drops to the bench which seems unlikely there's always McCarthy if Barkley drops back.

I think a lot is going to depend on who comes and goes but it looks more likely than not Besic will still be a squad player next year.

Enjoying the rational @chicoazul show.

Martinez may have put Besic to better use when man marking was important, but Besic isn't quite ready to be relied on yet.

Soon, hopefully.

Personally think neither Barry or Besic should be starters in that role. It should be mccarthy's role.

Imo we only need 1 holding cm in maybe all but the biggest away games (where I'd perhaps play 2)

I'd love for us to set up more like arsenal and chelsea with the 1 dedicated holding player (matic, coquelin) and that would be McCarthy who suits that role perfectly!

The Fabergas and Corzola role would go to barkley and the Oscar, Wiltshire/Ramsey role would go to our new signing (hopefully not cleverley ha..)

Note: I do believe the lad Ledson will make an impact sooner rather than later!

His season stats from whoscored. Let me remind You stats and your eyes combined are the good measurement but stats are very important for the coaching staff. It's a very important part of how a player performs. These are ranked for 297 players in the prem this year, let's say we rule out 30 goalkeepers as these stats are irrelevant for them.

Passing: 87,1% (32.) in the best 12% of 267 players
Successful tackles: 2,5/game (38.) best 14%
Succesful dribbles in attack: 1,4/game (40.) best 15%
Succesful dribbles in defense: 1,8/game (10.) best 4%

And there's his long ball accuracy in which he was 3rd in the prem 1,5 month ago, I think he managed to stay in the top5.
So overall combined these 4 stats (which require 3 totally different abilities) he was among the best 12% of the players in the EPL. In his first season in a new position.

As I said it's just a part of how he plays but it's quite good actually.
