never really got this love in with besic, yes he's a good player when fit, which is about 5 games in a season. yet mccarthy gets roasted by the fans for being injured less often than mo, if thats possible.

McCarthy doesn't man up and tell Ireland he is injured etc, and its always the hamstring so he clearly doesn't do everything he can to help, Mo has had like 3 bad, non-underlying injuries that are just bad luck, plus he busts a gut for the team so you wonder if he causes them himself

all you do is put somebody on the sweeper, instead of 1 or 2 Vs 4 it's 1 Vs 1

But how often in the modern game do players have to face a sweeper any more?

I reckon it'd take some adjusting for other teams and we'd probably catch a couple of sides out with it before everyone else caught on, especially if we work on it on the quiet

Worth doing I think, and if the other side cotton on we can always then move Besic back into midfield and go 4-5-1 or 4-4-2/4-3-3

not going to happen or dream on - take your pick

Just saw the full match against Goh Mahia. Besic was really really impressive in the 2nd half. This is man who has been out for a year with a serious knee injury and constant injury problems before that. But to come into the team and look completely unfazed, excellent ball composure and distribution playing in a new role, that really speaks volumes about his character. Hope Koeman sees some real potential in him. If McCarthy is let go then he can compete with Gana and Schneiderlim at CM. A few good cameos in the cup runs, injury free few months and he can really start claiming his place back.

He was never a starter. 30 odd games in 3 years.

Where did you get to watch full highlights mate?

in martinez's last season he has a period as a starter, playing in big games, picking up motm awards, it was injury that took his place not competition, so at the time he was first choice, therefore a 'starter'

1 week is a period. 1 month can be a period. I judge a player as a starter if he consistently started throughout a season at least. E.g Barry and McCarthy were starters under the football fraud. Besic played about 30 games in 3 seasons, he is a bit player as of today.
