Naismith and jelavic

The fact that motes tactical forte was Defensive is the main reason why attacking players fail under him. Mirallas even said he was asked to do alot of defensive work and he wasn't used to attacking full pelt and then having to defend full pelt immediately after.

Martinez will get the best out of the attacking players. Defensively we will probably concede a lot. But it's finding a balance that is the key. Will have to wait and see how we go.

Yeah thats a fair point. I've said since Beattie our strikers should be told to save thier legs for scoring. That doesn't mean it was solely down to Moyes for the way Jelavic played last season. He was missing chances left, right and centre.

Do think Naismith is a good player . He won't ever be a starter but he does have good foward attributes . I like the fact that he can bring jelavic into the game . The issue with him his he can't really pass the ball to be good enough in midfield. He reminds me of a tim Cahill who just has a nack of being in the right place . Put it this way he will ease the burden on the goals . If he can get 8 goals this season it will be a good season . If he got us them goals when we were drawing agaisnt dog ****e last season then we could of being in europe

To be fair to Naismith, he's looked good this pre-season. He got a lot of warranted stick last season because quite frankly, he was gash, but i think Martinez can do what he did with Maloney with Naismith and i think he can be a very good squad player for us.

Yeeah he had an unusually good game this morning.

If I was to pick a best Everton 11, he certainly wouldn't be in it. But fair play, if he keeps it up he should be in with a shout for playing.

Hi,
I have been playing a great browser game and I really enjoy it. You manage your own team and play against real players from all over the world. You can make your football/hockey or/and handball team(s). The game has good forum in many languages! Join in, you won't regret it!

I quite like Naismith tbh, trs his best which is all we can ask of him when he's in the team, he doesn't pick himself out on the right.

Naismith simply looks like another player under Martinez, it is as dramatic as Coleman's rise last season
We thought he is not playing in his best position in Moyes era, but then he looks decent under Martinez when deployed as a wide midfielder.
This really strengthens our squad, now we have Mirallas/Pienaar/Naismith/Deulofeu which all looks decent, compared to Pienaar ONLY during last season when Mirallas was injured.

In all honestly, I don't think I'll ever LIKE Naismith for some odd reason. But fair play to him, he played very well last night and he really doesn't deserve some of the stick he gets - I think he'll actually do a job for us this season.

Naismith's limited but he's looking in much better shape than last season. The effort has always been there but there was never the nuisance factor a player of his style needs, but he looks a yard quicker, used the ball better than I have seen him do in the past and showed some clever movement off the flanks. Hopefully he can contribute more to the squad next season.

Agreed, I think he's quite similar to Jelavic in a way. Both of them are used to scrapping around playing the odd bit of football here and there, mainly little touches and a 'good header' or a 'good shot'. If he can gradually learn what it's like to be involved in the play all over the pitch at this level, he'll be ok.

More than anything else I hope Martinez brings a style where whoever is in form and hungry plays. If it's Naismith who's in form and getting a chance I won't complain.

He got himself into some really good positions:

1) He was free in the middle and Kone just needed to put the ball across the box but passed it straight to their fullback instead.
2) He was in acres of space on the right but Mirallas took too long to see the pass and then put it too far infront of him in the air rather than along the deck.
3) Jelavic tried a backheel on the penalty spot when, if he'd left it, Naismith was running in to tap home.
4) On the final whistle he was just waiting for Gibson to play a through ball and he would have been in but he didn't spot it.

If his teammates were as aware as he is and played him the ball how and when he wanted it he probably would have scored a couple of goals last night. I think it was the best I've seen him play for us so far. He provided the assist for Jelavic's goal, showed a couple of other neat touches and worked hard for the team. The system seems to suit him and I think he could get 10-15 goals once his teammates start looking for his runs and he gets some confidence going.

Thought he looked sharp. He will never be brilliant, but I consider him very similar to Dirk Kuyt. I always thought Kuyt was a limited footballer but he always popped up with goals becuase he got in some good positions. If Naismith can be our version of that then I'd have no issue with him playing the last 20 minutes of games.

Dont know why. Naismith knocked a poorly directed headed ball down and behind Jelavic who did well to convert it. Is there any more compelling evidence those two can play together in the big leagues?

Always thought you give a decent opinion but that's unfair that mate, he got up at the far post to beat a taller full back in the air and knocked it back into the danger zone, creating a goal. What exactly would you expect a good player to do in the same position? That's all Ronaldo would have one had it been him at the back stick for Madrid. I don't particularly rate the lad but if your going to even criticise when he does well then he's got no chance

Would any one like to see Naismith play behind jelavic instead of him playing outwide, because they had a great understanding with each other at rangers and scored a shed full of goals between them

I would score a shed load of goals in the scottish league.
