Naismith and jelavic

Jelavic's biggest problem last year was that Moyes always made him run the channels. How is a striker supposed to score when he isn't in the box? Looking very good and I think he will have a good season.

... although RM had Kone run the channels as much or more than Moyes did with our strikers last year.

If we're going to play three up front then I think he has potential to score more goals from the left than Pienaar. I can imagine that he'll get a run in the team and hit a bit of a purple patch. He's a good, little poacher.

Always thought you give a decent opinion but that's unfair that mate, he got up at the far post to beat a taller full back in the air and knocked it back into the danger zone, creating a goal. What exactly would you expect a good player to do in the same position? That's all Ronaldo would have one had it been him at the back stick for Madrid. I don't particularly rate the lad but if your going to even criticise when he does well then he's got no chance

That's not the point. I was responding to the oft-trailed theory that he can partner Jelavic. I pointed out that it was the one instance he linked up with Jelavic and it left the Croatian with a lot to do to wrap his foot around it. It's not harsh, it's just accurate.

If he comes in and finds another 50% this season to what he showed last then I'd welcome it too. I dont want to cut off my nose to spite my face. But people cant be criticised for being sceptical about him given what he produced last season. He was abysmal most of the time. We all know this. Second chance, yeah fine.

they played in the same team on numerous occasions last season to zero effect.

We really need to drop this matter. Kone will be first choice attacker...Martinez hasn't shelled out a scarce £5/6M to sit his new signing on the bench....and if we're left stuck hoping for a Naismith/Jelavic pairing to spark something this season we really will be in big trouble.

I'm hopeful we can shift someone out and get a new striker in. I just don't believe in this attack, ATM.

Kone hasn't shown enough for me to displace Jelavic as first choice. I think you'll see them alternative unless one of them gets hot. Also, unless we sell someone like Heitinga, we can't afford the type of striker that we're looking for.

It doesnt matter if "we" feel Kone has done enough, if the rumours are true, Martinez is happy to move Jelavic on and as Dave said, he hasnt spent our entire transfer budget for a striker to sit on the bench.

Jelavic is a better goalscorer than Kone on form IMO so if Martinez moves him on for a measly fee under £10m for me it would be his first sign of bad thought. He hasn't brought anyone on as of yet who is a experienced top notch player! His signings have been average in my opinion except a good inexperienced catch from Barca.

Selling Jelavic would be ridiculous and the majority of fans would not like it.

Harsh on Kome given he's had roughly 90 mins.

When this season starts I suspect we'll see pretty quickly who's best starting. Kone is stronger, quicker and links better than Jelavic. I'd be (happily) astounded if Jelavic doesn't pick up where he left off in the hurly burly of the PL.

I liked Kone for PSV top striker. He was great a Wigan too. But on form Jelavic is an assassin Infront of goal.

Jelavic was poor last season. He isn't a great footballer technically but he is a great finisher when his head is focused. David Moyes desire for everybody to close the ball down under attack does not help someone of Jelavics mould.

Just read what Mirallas said about having to attack then instantly reposition and defend... It's not part of what he does but he had to adapt to the Moyes way.

He's already proven it. Last time he was employed as a striker instead of a carthorse running the channels he scored 9 Premier League goals in 13 games.

Expect the same again. It shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody.

This

Kone is more suited to being a cart horse.

Jelavic just needs to stay floating in and around the box = bags of goals.

Forget the donkey work

It's not harsh, people are just speaking off the back of what they've seen, you're just rating Jelavic on a selective period of his employment at Goodison btw

He had more touches on average per 90 mins in the 18 yard box last season than he did in his first...

Which means he was more instinctive and ruthless in his first season than in the second. That stat means nothing in regards to his channel running as that is done as a defensive measure. When we were in possession his off the ball movement was still really good in the box; it was his finishing that was off.
