Logged on to read comments about a signing that we have been moaning about getting (good young player with a high ceiling on potential and a RIGHT BACK) and nice to see Rangers fans coming on and giving nothing but praise on the lad and how good he can be but its a shame that the now what seems to be the standard negative comments. There is moaning when we buy players that are experienced but people moan that they are too old with no re-sale value and then we moan when we buy a younger player with high potential, I really do not see what some of you bother to get out of bed in the morning. I have a lot of family and friends in Glasgow and they have been going on about this guy for the past couple of years and how good he can be.

I’m not against this signing, but I’m a little bit bemused and concerned as to where this money is coming from.

Excited based off what I have seen of him including a cracking individual goal for Scotland recently. However, the fee quoted for a player with such little experience indicates we continue to be a soft touch in the transfer market.

By way of comparison, Celtic signed a CB Liam Scales from Shamrock Rovers last August. Decent young player at League of Ireland level and had been playing U21 for national side for a fee of 500K. They gave him his league debut early December and he has now started the last two SPL games and has scored too. Where is our equivalent scouting network in identifying and signing sub 1m prospects (Gray and Townsend’s age counts them out of that) as opposed to blowing close to 20m each on a pair of unproven (in the PL at least) full backs? On yesterday’s evidence Scales would have been infinitely better than Keane or Holgate also.

The signing of two such expensive full backs simultaneously is quite the roll of the dice. If it backfires, we will be selling one or both of DCL and Richy this summer to balance the books.

1st bolded part = Branthwaite

2nd bolded part = We need full backs

fairly obvious, it was always there, they didnt want to give money to Benitez in the summer to spend, because they didnt trust him

but Its got to the stage now that they are seriously concerned about league position and any issues they have about handing Benitez cash are secondary, if they exist at all.

This is far from some kind of vote of confidence in the waiter that some are portraying it as. This is a panicked board, trying to spend their way out of trouble.

that's a push aint it, had the money but didn't rust the newly appointed manager? lol

we have saved millions by letting people go, saved huge amounts on wages. letting James go saved about 4-5 mill alone. that's WHERE THE MOENY HAS COME FROM I THINK

Let’s put it another way if we were comfortable mid table (which is what they expected from the waiter even unfunded) then we wouldn’t be spending as we are. Im pretty certain of that.

It’s a total reaction to the league table.

I don’t think the money is there mate, we are £35m over our spending limit. I hope there’s an actual plan to recoup some money otherwise we’re going to be under the microscope even more.

We haven’t saved millions by letting people go. We haven’t saved enough to fund £40m worth of players this window anyway.

Your right I’m not sure the money is there

Is it a move borne of desperation and fear? - definitely.

Digne, unfortunately going, will essentially be paying for Mykolenko and Patterson. Anything else we do will require other bodies going unless it’s a loan
