Confirmed Signing Nathan Patterson

Even if it doesn't work out, this lad and Mykolenko are exactly the sort of deals we should be doing

Young, relatively inexpensive (by PL standards) and on reasonable wages - if they don't work out, they'll be easy enough to move on

Unless they're on a free, loan or are in a strange situation where clubs are willing to part for small fees (and all need to be on reasonable wages anyway), I don't want to see Everton signing anyone over 25/26 now

At the other end, unless players are absolutely vital to us, I'd like to see us trying to move on players who are 27/28 while they still have some resale value

Granted, it's all a bit Football Manager, but I genuinely think we need to consciously go through this sort of thought process now as we've been much too far the other way and it's left us with a bloated, expensive mess of a squad

I know nothing about Patterson other than what I've read and what I've seen on YouTube, it all seems fairly positive but for me the most important thing about this signing is the profile of the player and the financial package, it's precisely the sort of thing I'd like to see us doing more of.

With Gordon being integrated into the team and these two new signings, the age profile of the team is being reduced and this is a really good thing

Good article this, and from someone who actually knows rather than a few sudden Scottish experts on here. Can play both roles of full back and wing back, and interestingly had to be coached to adapt his game as a “modern” wing back to get further forward as initially was an out and out full back.

Another great piece, highlighting his strength at defending, which flys in the face of Dave’s verdict that the lad simply can’t defend..

I'm laughing but I think I would make Hull outright favourites for this tie, the way we are playing.
Believe me, I'm the last person to make bold forecasts, but in this instance Hull would have to play out of their skins to beat us on Saturday. I would add that also means us playing worse than we did the other day.
Fourth round beckons.
