Confirmed Signing Nathan Patterson

Who were you talking about? Not Patterson, surely. I keep reading that he's only played 12 games in total and only 5 this season.

I think he must be a very talented young man, but those figures don't sound great.

As for the fee, without even searching for it I've seen 10, 12 and 16 million.

At times last season we were asking for Nkounkou to get minutes at left-back and he hadn't played a single pro game before we signed him last Summer.

His appearances are only low because his position is captains and its RB. If your a decent CB you have 2 positions to go for he has been unfortunate in that part. Patterson played against Royal Antwerp (and scored) at Ibrox and played home and away in the last 16 against Slavia Prague. Held his ground well and never looked out of place. Also recently played away to Lyon in the Europa League group stages.

We didn't bring Nkounkou to the club with a view to strengthening the firsts. He was, and is one for the future.

I could be wrong, but I think Patterson is expected to be RB in the team pretty much straight away.

Sorry, I read it as being the number of matches he'd played, not the the rounds of the Europa.

The worrying bit for me is how happy the Rangers Sporting Director is with the deal “ I’ve been dealing with Bill Kenwright for a number of weeks. It has been a pleasure to deal with Bill, a man who represents his club with genuine class” . I’ve no doubt Bill is a” nice guy” but we really need a hard nosed negotiator for these deals , I get the feeling Bill just rolled over and paid them whatever they wanted.
But at the end of the day , hopefully in time we’ll have a bargain on our hands, a regular international and first team player.

My take, for what it's worth:

Not seen him play for Rangers in the SPL, but he's impressed in Europe and with Scotland when I've watched him.

Young enough to adapt and has good attributes in terms of size, pace and he's a good crosser of the ball. Defensively he's not the best (so puzzling why Benitez wants him) but that can improve and hopefully will be accounted for in selection.

The fee is peanuts really in comparison to our other signings and has the potential for much higher ceiling. He will get game time ahead of Coleman who is flagging badly and it gives us an actual long term replacement RB for the first time in a while.

The signings of Patterson and Mykolenko are exactly the type of signings we should have been making in the last five years.
Hopefully, lessons have been learned about our recruitment policy and I would hope that if this manager stays at the club in the longer term or he is replaced by somebody else then young talented players like these will still be seen as the future of the club.

Very true and at the same time giving our young players a chance just like Matt Busby did with Man U before it was destroyed in Munich.

Look at FSW signings, Rondon, Lonergan no need at all, Townsend good back up but no future. Gray spot on but was he a FSW signing?

Now the two FBs are looking to the future but I wonder how much was FSW involved in them?
