Confirmed Signing Nathan Patterson

Not posted for a while as the forum on the whole is a pretty negative place regardless of what we do as a club. Granted, some of it is understandable after the way we've been managed over the last few years but you can bet we'd be having the usual suspects complaining that we'd not brought anyone in yet 4 days into the window, if we'd not done any business.

But instead, we've acted quickly in a notoriously quiet transfer window and in 2 areas where we have issues (with one area where 99% of fans have been begging for a replacement for the last 3-5 years). We've not just bought stop gaps/squad cover as per Cuco Martina, Brian Oviedo style deals of the past, we've brought in 20 and 22 year old internationals, one of which in particular has received glowing recommendations from coaches that have worked with him and ex players that have watched him, not to mention fans of the club he's played for.

Patterson is only 20 and will need time to adapt to the league (As did Tierney at Arsenal) but in reality, £11m would be the starting price for a semi-decent championship player with 'some' potential these days (Think Calvert Lewin and Mason Holgate level 'potential' back in the day). Patterson is way above the level they were at when purchased, in a key position for us too. Max Aarons for example, in the championship last year was being touted at £25m. Marcus Tavernier at Boro is touted at £7m at the moment and has no end product, Dael Fry at £11m etc...

If we sell Digne, who I've liked as an attacking player (despite being a walking yellow card and constantly giving away stupid fouls around the box) for anything like £25m and get rid of his large wage, that will cover the 2 players we've brought in and leaves us in a stronger position overall in my opinion. Sensible transfer policy finally. Now I don't agree with the way Digne v Benitez has come about as it can't be helping the general morale around the camp, but it may benefit us in the long run.

Let's face it, Seamus has been an immense signing for us and fantastic servant over the years, but it says it all when JJK can do just as well as he can... Looking forward to the new lads first game.

edit: Sorry for the long post...

I don't know which one of us you're addressing the sectarianism comment to. If you can point put even one post I have made in over 2 years on here which contained even the merest hint of sectarianism, I will apologise, and delete it right away.

One Evertonian poster posted 'Still stuck in the dark ages with their religious war' If you have an issue with sectarianism on the forum, I would suggest you start with him. I haven't see anything on this thread either by myself, or the Rangers supporters, that could possible be described as sectarian by any reasonable person.

lt's probably best if I don't post any further on this thread, as it would appear some of the most thin skinned people I have ever encountered are on it, and they take offence at anything that is not Evertonian cheerleading. All this furore because I think Rangers have got an excellent deal here.

As they say in hip-hop tracks, peace out. ;)

Oh Rangers have got a cracking deal in the fact that £11m is a fortune in Scottish football. If an English club had sold an equivalent player, it'd be £25m opening offers (See Max Aarons last season and that was in the Championship). In fact, we could probably sell him instantly for a profit ;)

Do you mean Scotland in general?

Because there are numerous recent examples

Van Dijk, Robertson, Armstrong, McGinn, Eduoard, Wanyama

And that's before we get to players who were doing okay in English football until injuries or loss of form slowed them down such as Jelavic, Mccarthy, Forster, Pukki, Tierney etc

All within the past ten years

If you're talking Rangers then you may have a point, but lets not forget that they've only recently become a force in the Scottish game again after years of bad management and player acquisition, and ridiculous business practices from the likes of David Murray that left them drowning in debt
Are people forgetting Big Dunc ?

He is going to have to challenge straight away. While not expensive in real premier league terms, given our FFP predicament it’s a lot to spend on any player that can’t contribute immediately
I really can't see why he can't challenge immediately. I think he offers way more than anyone we have at the moment. The only reasons he might not come in immediately is that Coleman is captain and needing a bit of time to acclimatise to the league. I expect Seamus will gradually be phased out this season, with Patterson coming on as a sub quite regularly. Next season is when I expect him to be starting game in, game out.

The Spanish pig got this Alan Hutton clone that scared he chose no.3 shirt

Dirty Scottish flop, not looking good if you can't get ahead of a Newcastle drop out

Grim being an Everton fan at the moment.
Where to start with this crap, first calling him a flop when he’s not played yet, second Tavernier is their captain and one of their main goal threats, that’s why he wasn’t getting game time, when he did he played well, especially in Europe

Honestly he is more than ready to start. He has played in the last 32 and last 16 of the Europa League.
Who were you talking about? Not Patterson, surely. I keep reading that he's only played 12 games in total and only 5 this season.

I think he must be a very talented young man, but those figures don't sound great.

As for the fee, without even searching for it I've seen 10, 12 and 16 million.
