A decent performance. Electric the first 5. Two semi indifferent clearences. But Clarke has used this game to test a sit deep and counter attacking formation. I get why he has, and it's worked a dream and exactly what a friendly is for. Not set up for him to shine but he did well enough. Only taken off to give O'Donnell game time. Got back every time totally fine and was sitting in the position a certain poster on here demands.

And to put into context how well he did defensively, since he went off Scotland have been exposed badly, down their defensive right side.

Can’t believe I am saying this but I agree with @davek tonight. I’m a fan of NP but he didn’t look to clever defensively tonight. Always good going forward but I don’t see this as a common problem just got caught a couple of times tonight.

played reasonably well tonight. Had a ten minute spell in the first half where they got in a couple times down their left but they were overloading that side. Comfortable after that. Didn’t look out of place defensively at all, or at this level of football, made a few good defensive contributions.

It’s abundantly clear he’s far too good to be loaned out to the championship. Miles ahead of where Coleman was when he was loaned to Blackpool. Defensive side of his game certainly no worse than Coleman’s was when he got in our first team - he improved with games.

He could do that job. I thought Guardiola would try him there as he's adapted CBs to become CM and vice versa in the past.
