Yes Dave, I can see him getting up and down the line, I think he has every chance of becoming a good premier league full back. As to getting mullered away to PL outfits, what do you think is happening at the moment? I'm pretty sure that the only way he will play in the championship next season is if he does so for Everton. We are absolutely crying out for pace at the back, much as I like Seamus, he is often bypassed by quick wingers these days, he has just lost that yard of pace.

If we stay up, I think we will get a first choice in on loan and Patterson all be gradually integrated during the course of the season. If he's not good enough, we'll know by this time next season, untill then it is all a matter of opinion.
Cant defend mate. Gives the ball away way too many times also...high up the pitch it doesn't get punished severely...that's why he was told to play his usual and only half capable role as a winger last night.

It was pretty clear the sub was tactical. We were playing an awful 3 at the back system with wing backs and needed a back 4 with an extra attacker. I just don't like 3 at the back, never have, never will.

Whereas Kenny, just what, 12 months ago, wasn't fit for purpose in either full back or winger role in the SPL. Literally a joke figure in the league along with Duffy.

You have a weird infatuation with this young lad. I note now you add caveats to your posts in respect of his ability, at this time etc, pretty much says it all to me. You know you'll be proven wrong, but stubbornness and nailing your colours to the mast early doors without seeing him play, much, if at all, prior to signing, means you have condemned him to the not good enough category. The cavaets, that weren't there before, tell a different story however.
Kenny has played in two leagues with ease (the PL and Bundesliga) where Patterson would be utterly battered from pillar to post in.

Celtic: just didn't work out. It happens.

My *infatuation* as you call it is a fury at Everton getting £16M of the club's money and handing it to a disgusting outfit who have ripped our club off previously for and for what - a sub with loads to learn. Absolutely fuming.

Gotta say, I didn’t think he was as good as many are in here are saying. Maybe I need to watch it back.

Looked like he had a good touch, and he seemed comfortable with the ball, but his delivery was shockingly bad at times.

It's called a lack of experience mate, it happens with young defenders. Moyes Only played Coleman as a winger in his early days. This boy has potential, I know you have a problem with all thing Rangers related, but, your stance on this lad is unfair. He's only a kid and I know that we needed a full back who was ready to go straight into the team, however, that is down to whoever made the decision to sign him.

The jury is out on whether we paid too much for him, only time will tell on that. Get off the kids back and give him a chance, you have no more idea than anyone else whether he will make a good PL full back. It's just your opinion Dave and surprisingly it has become, on planet Dave, a cold hard fact. ' he's a duffer, can't defend, only a half capable winger' and so on .

Seamus is really at the end of his career now and Kenny, in my opinion, has nowhere near the potential of Patterson. I wonder, if Patterson had been signed from Celtic rather than Rangers, would you be more willing to give him a chance.

The lads played 1 game and young defenders have not so great times in there development.Even are best captain ratcliffe had a tough start with us . So maybe support the lad and let see what’s happens eh victor meldrew

I'v fairly stated that he can be an asset going forward and geting a cross in. Even in that non-descript 45 minutes last night he showed that. The trouble is that we have a lot of specialist wide players who can also do a better job than he can defensively...and HE is supposed to be the full back!

You can easily see now why FL has had no real option than to state he's one for the future. Defensively Coleman and Kenny are better bets, attacking wise Gray, Townsend, Gordon, El Ghazi have more to offer...and even Iwobi is fancied over him by FL.

We have a player who needs to add something to his game...he should get that extra out on loan in the Championship. THAT is just common sense.

In fairness, if ever there was a game where we didn't need full backs to defend, it was yesterday. I think we had 80% possession and they had 1 shot from about 30 yards.

The problem in the first half was a collective lack of urgency from every outfield player, maybe except Gordon. We took far too many touches, we were sloppy and we were lethargic. We were only marginally better second half but it was more than enough on the night.

Which is why he was played.

We have paid a reasonable transfer fee for the lad and I would imagine his wages are fairly decent as well. We can't afford to invest that kind of money in a player and send him out on loan, he will have to learn his trade here and be our back up right back, I mean he may even benefit from being coached by Ashley Cole and Leighton Baines. THAT is common sense and financial reality.

By the way Dave, constantly using capital letters in words to highlight your opinion dos not make what you are saying any more correct.
