2022/23 Nathan Patterson

He must be more adventurous in the final third. Too timid in his attacking approach. Passes and crossing too predictable and easy to deal with.

…..certainly sloppy for the Forest goal. He was following his attacker across the area when Holgate intervened & pointed to him to pick up the other forward, he was watching the game when the ball came out from Pickford. Common error for defenders, forwards inevitably on the front foot.

Its his running power that makes him a threat at the other end. He’s not a dribbler, he’ll run beyond defenders with or without the ball. He’s not doing that & he’s not delivering crosses into the box. All a bit safe at this point in time with neither WB contributing.
For the goal he tracks across correctly to the winger and slips. That allows the ball to go to a Forest player who get's the shot off. Holgate was correct in telling him to be aware of Johnson. He half tarcks him then...expecting Pickford to gather the shot....he turns his back on Johnson.

No level of defender should do that, let alone a PL one. THAT is why he isn;t a defender. No instinct for it.

It's obvious he can only play in a 3 CB system where that extra defender comes across allowing him to stay up the field a lot of the game. In a four he'd be calamitous.

…I agree criticism is warranted for the goal, but forwards will often get to rebounds first, not least because they are on the front foot facing in the right direction. The fact Patterson wasn’t tight to Johnson gave him a chance but he was certainly at fault.

Last weekend we saw a Gordon shot come back off the keeper that Rondon failed to get on the end of but that was lots to do with his lack of pace. I’m convinced most strikers put that away.

i am in agreement, whilst his general play has been ok, I think we need to see more from Patterson.

Wasn’t at fault for their goal today get a grip, the lad had a good game, if anything Pickford probably should have held on to that shot.

Agree with this and I've said something similar, when people call for 4-3-3 we can't do it with Patterson at right back.
Would have to do it when Coleman is back, or play holgate there if we went with a back 4.

The only other option I see is to play a natural right sided defender in a back 3 - ie Coleman in there. That way Patterson can have some back up.

Think Patterson is fine in a back 3 considering his age and experience, I feel he's that kind of player that may always be a worry in a back 4.

I've been impressed with him. Might be in the minority on here but sod it ? (Is sod a profanity I know it means lump of turf outside of GoT filters)

To me it looks like Lampard is playing a back 5. He's set up the wing backs and then not using them. The midfield is brutal too. Iwobi gets about but he never picks a pass. Both wingbacks spent all day defending. Not good enough from Lampard I'm afraid. Tactically it isn't there.

I'd swoop for the Brentford manager. Pay him double whatever that diddy team is paying him. Or go get Patrick Viera.
