Here’s the thing ‘Davek’, Patterson has came down from Scotland at quite a young age, he’s obviously got a bit of belief in himself and his ability or he would’ve sat back at Rangers and waited on getting a place in the team. But he didn’t, he moved South to improve and challenge himself. He’s put in as much effort as any player in the squad since arriving, he’s had a couple of injury set backs, but tried to come back stronger and fitter. To me it’s pretty obvious that he has a great deal of desire to be successful. And he will be, I’m confident he has what it takes to be a top player. He loves playing for Scotland, has played through the age groups and is a full international. Scotland have some very good young right backs, all around the same age as Nathan. Hickey at Brentford, Ashby at Newcastle, Ramsay at Liverpool etc. Nathan knows he must be at his best for his club to play for Scotland because the competition for his position is strong. And he will know that he needs to perform for Everton to get into the Scotland team. And I’m sure he will enjoy the challenge.Ok, 'Calvin'.
Now if you were to ask any Scotland fan who would be their 1st choice right-back/wing-back, I’m sure most would need a minute or two before making a decision between Hickey and Patterson, it’s very difficult to pick one over the other at the moment.
Personally I think that Nathan can become Scotland’s 1st choice fullback/wingback, I think he has the most potential of them all. And that’s no slight on Hickey or the others who may very well go on to play at top teams in England or abroad. Now if, for whatever reason, it doesn’t work out for Nathan at Everton, I’m pretty sure it won’t be because of lack of effort or commitment. Which when you buy a young player with potential, is all you can really ask of them, that they put in the effort and try.
