Every single player in our squad needs to improve, that's why they're playing for us.
Agree but the thing with this lad he has young and coleman both close at the end of the line. He is still for me behind them both, i have called out young this season but have no seen anything from patterson this season to get back to his pre lampard form

Don’t think he got the usual help from Harrison.

The Pickford hissy fit was both ridiculous from Pickford, but also telling. Not sure he has their trust at the moment.

Yes pickford was going mad towards the bench when Patterson took the ball when pickford was shouting for it and tbf I’d rather pickford try and play the ball forward than Patterson.
Why, so Pickford could smash it out of play yet again as he did about 200 times before Patto took control.

Pickford was out of order kicking off, no issues with Patterson taking control when Pickford was having one of his no meds games.

Had no cover or support from Harrison tonight, plus had the walking, talking disaster that is Keane on his side and he still did ok.

Not at fault for the penalty defeat, but the agenda rolls on.

Think at the time we was a goal down so yes I’d rather pickford punt it forward instead of Patterson, think he’s out of order for kicking off but at the same time if he’s shouted for it he should leave it. That’s the problem our full backs can’t support themselves and need the cover of the wide players to make them look adequate. No agenda with Patterson from me other than I still don’t think he’s good enough and doesn’t look any better than he did 4/5 games into last season.

I agree, Pickford was coming on to it whereas Patterson was heading the wrong direction. And as Pickford called for it, it should have been left for him.

However, the amount of aimless punts we did that just went to the GK or off the back, I’d much rather Patterson look to actually try and build something or look to play it behind.

Poor first half. Got taken on a couple of times. (Against a Willian who has been in excellent form recently though). Got done for the goal by them doubling up on him as Robinson wasn’t picked up by Harrison so not much he could do.

Second half was much better. Won his tackles and one on ones and looked to get forward. His crossing was good. Considering his crossing, surprised he was behind Gana in the penalty order.

It didn’t help with Pickford trying his Hollywood passes to Braithwaite, who was marked and could only head back to Onana who was marked to and we lose the ball and conceded. Love Pickford think he is great keeper, buy last night he was off it with his decisions and distribution.
Patterson is raw we can all see that, he seems to start of slow in every game but grows into it. Only gets better by playing games consistently.

Yeah I agree.

All game we were slow to the second ball. Would win the first ball every time but Fulham were much more reactive to that when we were.

Saw on Twitter people saying Pickford was on his case? I didn't see this did anyone else?

IIRC, the ball was running back towards Pickford at the edge of his area, Pickford was preparing to launch one upfield. Patterson took the ball and turned and ran it himself unopposed to the halfway line and launched it himself from there (to no one). Pickford got the hump about it and moaned in the direction of our bench. Couldn't say if he was asking him to be subbed or just having moan

When Tarkowski is on that right side, he keeps the ball longer, and waits for patterson to get into a better position or if that pathway is blocked dosent pass there.

Everytime Keane received the ball he wanted rid so moved it over to patterson asap, leaving it a pass were patterson couldnt do much without having to stop and take a touch instead of receiving it onfront of him.
Often having Robinson, William & Iwobi all circulating that area of the pitch!

The lad did fine

Always seems to be someone else's fault 'not covering for him' or 'he needs more games'.

He's played 34 games for us and is 22 years old.

Branthwaite is 21 and played 24 games and looks fantastic out there.

When are people just going to desert their set position that Patterson has anything too offer as a FB and just agree that he doesn't?

If people wish to argue he's got some sort of future as a wide player (a la the switch Bale made from ropey FB to excellent winger) then let them argue that instead.

But FFS the jury is well in on this lad as a defender: he cant defend.
