2024/25 Nathan Patterson

I don’t support either if the Old Firm. I do watch a lot of Scottish football and sadly for my sins have a season ticket at Hearts.

Even though the league is poor, very poor even, every so often you see a young player who stands out and is head and shoulders above the rest. You can tell they’re too good to be in the Scottish league and will go on to bigger things.

Aaron Hickey when he was at Hearts, playing in the Scottish cup final at 16 and looking like the most composed player in the pitch. Saw Gary Naismith come through at Hearts as a 17 year old, he had it. Alan Hutton at Rangers stood out when I saw him for Scotland under 21s. John McGinn at city rivals Hibs is another one.

Paterson was a similar bracket, when I saw him in Europe for Rangers or for Scotland looked a similar stand out prospect. He’s had too many injuries here, ultimately he’s not been able to stay fit enough. That said, he was a real prospect and we’ve handled him terribly. He’s not a Dyche type fullback, he wants to play out of defence, he wants to play give and goes, he wants to overlap and get crosses in. He’s nowhere near as bad a defender as some have made out. Just a young player who, if we’d persevered with, like we have Mkyo, we’d have seen improvement and there was a potential good player there.

Ultimately Dyche just won’t have him, he wants a fullback to be a wide centre back, that’s it. He’s too busy telling the boy what he can’t do instead of focussing on what he can do. Can’t see him making it here now, shame as was a genuine prospect at one point.

Levels above Rangers but couldn’t get into their team?
Keep seeing this on here. Every Rangers fan i know rated him really highly and wanted him to play more. The problem was Tavenier was their Captain, best player and scoring 15 odd goals a season from right back - he was Rangers most important player. Paterson was very highly rated, very highly.

And this is it, when the team gets inevitably pumped guess who immediately gets dropped… shameful the way some of the players here are treated yet others who have this magical “experience” are allowed infinite minutes to get in to some kind of form
Just like Chermiti (1-4 min cameos every other week), Simms (scored a goal then got banished basically as he was put on as a lone striker in the most defensive 4-5-1 the world has seen where he didn't have anyone near him all game), etc.

Dycheball baby.

Benitez, Lampard and even Ferguson all concurred: he was in the team as a last resort. Dyche has carried that on.

But you dont have to even believe the managers have got it wrong, you just need to have seen him play in an Everton shirt. He's been appalling apart from a couple of games. He just doesn't have it for the PL. He has no pace, he has no focus, he has no positioning, he has no link play. He can swing a decent cross in every three or four games. That's it.

If there's a football God he'll be shifted out and bought by another club that hands us at least some cash to put toward a FB who can do the job required in the PL. Another sixty grand for another Seamus Coleman would be an appropriate end to this saga.

Surely if he was ‘levels above’ then they play him at left back, or right midfield.

I think he’s ok and should be playing but I haven’t ever seen anything from him that suggests he’s anything exceptional or should be playing in the top half of the Premier League.

Is this a joke?

You've just proven my point pal.

Barely played, young and fast.

Only time I remember him starting was against Liverpool and he was decent. Also shown he put a class cross in as we saw at old Trafford.

Played for the U23's last week and also played a quality ball to Broja.

But yeah be like a Davek and think it's popular to criticise a certain player on social media. As I said Osman got hell on here when he was actually a decent player.

And play a 70 year old combined age of young and Coleman instead

Mate, I have seen him play for us. I don’t know if you have, but I have seen him out of position nearly all the time. I’ve seen him fail at winning a header against Arsenal leading to a goal. I’ve seen him sell a goal against Arsenal leading Brighton. Simply put, he isn’t good enough. Not premier league quality at all and never ever will be.

I think you're massively wrong. He's got the ability to do well, played with injuries yet people like you say a player isn't good enough over a few performances. Absolutely baffles me.

Should we get rid of Branthwaite for his blunders yesterday?

All those top quality mangers?

No, but he defo shouldn’t be playing the next game. He may of been brought back too quickly after his injury.

Would be nice to see him in an Everton shirt tbh, needs to be given an opportunity.
