2024/25 Nathan Patterson

…says everything about the squad that’s been put together and the transfer strategy. The fact that Young has arguably been our best player this season is quite depressing. Shamefully, he’s our best no2.
Just imagine for one minute if the manager was tactically competent for a minute and he was able to work on a system that used Pattersons strengths, but also ensured he coached others to ensure his weaknesses are not exploited

….watching him, I’m not sure what Patterson’s strengths are. I think he’s comfortable in possession so can interplay with teammates but he’s certainly no better than Young in that respect. Saying that, him and Lindstrom would be interesting. The cross Young put on Beto’s head for the last minute equaliser was high quality.

Patterson has got a decent stride on him, but he’s been very wasteful around the opposition box when he gets there. He hit a terrific cross for the goal Danjuma scored and the best I saw him was away to Leeds a few years ago where he and McNeil worked very hard defensively. There was also a goal he created for U21s when he won the ball with a sliding tackle and ended up putting a cross onto Dobbin’s head.

Generally, however, he’s been hugely disappointing and a liability in defence. Hopefully time out of the team has helped him reset, it’s happened before. Unless Young has a dip in form or injury, it’s hard to see Patterson replacing him, maybe Mykolenko getting dropped could be his route in. It’d be great if we see a new Patterson.

He’s got legs and can stretch a defense

Literally creating space so the opposition aren’t standing there looking at our lone striker and the rest of the team 50 yards away
Hope so, don’t think he’s as quick as you think though.

He got legged a few times for the u21s a few weeks ago, sure he got sent off in his last game for them as well?

He's huffing and puffing running back to position like he's been a 40 a day smoker for years.

People saying his asset is speed have obviously not watched him play...which is about the only way anyone would advocate his inclusion as a starter - not having seen him play.

I mean he looked fine when he’s been in the first team.

Option B is stick with a 39 year old and let’s hope and pray the hoof ball works one day
Has he? Have you watched him? He’s had a couple of decent games.

39 year old who has been our best defender the last 6 games. 3 defenders made errors for goals on Sunday, the old man wasn’t one of them funnily enough.

Myko needs dropping over Young.

Yes mate I have, every game he’s played. Has he really been that bad

And the only reason Young has been our best defender is simply due to the 10 men behind the ball approach.

But why try and win a game when you can setup for a draw

No he’s been alright, worth playing over Mykolenko 100% and I really hope he gets a run in the side.

He’s not the solution by any means though from what I’ve seen so far. Think injuries and mismanagement might have done for him - hope not.

….he’s not the fastest but he has got a decent stride.

Not sure about the isolated striker bit. First 20 mins at OT, we had terrific options up front even on the break. Ndiaye broke into the top third, had options left and right but gave it to a United player. McNeil broke into the box, had a couple of passes on but took it himself and got disposessed. Beto got the ball in the box, Doucoure made a terrific overlap but Beto chose to cut inside and put the ball into the back row.

We do get players into forward positions, we woefully lack quality to exploit it.

Anyway, on the subject of Patterson he really needs to grasp the opportunity when it next arises. It really is up to him, we could certainly do with him applying himself and finally delivering.

Yeah let’s not talk about the opening 20 mins of a match, whereby when Plan A wasn’t working and Utd cottoned on we ran out of ideas

Sounds familiar that

And yes, let’s hope young Nathan get a chance; everyone else seems to no matter how bad they’re playing

I’d drop the pair of them at home my myself. Go 3 at the back and tell the wingbacks to play on the halfway line going forward, not backwards

And he probably won’t be the solution, but something needs to change. When all of us can handpick the team and tactics 3 days before the game, then there’s a serious problem with how rigid the manager is

Can’t have McNeil at lwb surely, I don’t fancy any of our midfielders in a two in there either.

I like the idea of 3-4-3 but the personnel aren’t there I don’t think.

I’ve said all the team is made for a 3-4-3; that my opinion. He can have his 2 holding midfielders that he loves.

Launch Patterson and Harrison as the wingbacks, Ndiaye and one of Lindstrom/MCneil behind the your striker.

Play high up the pitch and just take the game to the opposition.

Probably the best we can do, I think we’d get killed through the middle and out wide but we’d cause teams problems.
