2024/25 Nathan Patterson

If he plays while Dyche is the manager, the reason why he doesn't play well will be due to Dyche's tactics.

If he doesn't play well for the next manager it's all quite clear the new manager has an agenda against him and is ruining him with his tactics.

Also, Steve Clarke needs to go as he is holding back the urban myth of Patterson.

Eggs I think injuries have stopped Nathan from getting a lot of game time, we all have our own opinions and I realise you know your football but Iā€™d like Patterson to get a good run of games to prove one way or the other whether he is up to playing consistently in the premier league.

ā€¦.i watched him a bit for Rangers and in internationals before he came. I was actually happy we signed him as I was impressed with his composure and link play with teammates. Heā€™s also got a decent stride on him (rather than being fast) so he can make ground into forward areas.

Iā€™ve just been so disappointed with him here. He gets caught in no-manā€™s land defending or he dashes at his opponent making him so easy to get past. His attacking play has also been ordinary (excepting a great cross for Danjuma and a fine assist for Dobbin in an U21 game I watched).

Thereā€™s no excuses for him, he wonā€™t get a ā€˜run of gamesā€™ until he improves. Itā€™s not the Managers fault heā€™s not being selected, even last season Godfrey was RB if Young or Coleman were injured.

I actually wonder if he lacks application and attitude but only he can change the situation, Iā€™d be chuffed if he can.

I could be missing something here, hasn't the lad been injured for the best part of 6 months? He's only just started getting back to fitness and has been slowly introduced into the first team since?
Been back in full training since September. A few run outs for the u23's and a couple of appearances from the bench for the first team.

So very similar to how every player is phased back into the first team?

Suppose point being, we have no idea if Patterson is or isn't in Dyches plans this season (although take the point history would suggest not), but certainly wouldn't be calling Clark out as evidence of his inability given he was considered a starter up until he became injured.

He returned to training after injury at the same as Branthwaite so he's not being phased back in like other players are. I suppose you could compare his return to that of Calvert-Lewin, but surely if this was the case Dyche would have mentioned it in a press conference.

I think he was only a regular starter for Scotland because Aaron Hickey was injured.

Your first paragraph is mostly why I like him, Rangers were a successful and winning team, in a poor two or three team fight for the title, nevertheless it was a winning team. Then he came to a threadbare squad at Everton fighting the odds before and since he came, a young lad never given a real chance at first, the manager in charge when he came was fired not long after he came, not sure if Lampard gave him many games, then injuries one after the other even playing for Scotland. Dyche has been here two years nearly, again not given a chance and more injuries so heā€™s back to where he was when he came. Maybe heā€™s not good enough for the premier league or maybe he needs the one thing that every footballer needs ā€”ā€”A little bit of luck, he hasnā€™t had a sniff of it.

ā€¦.excepting he very rarely got a chance at Rangers and had he stayed heā€™d still not be playing in their first team.

Has anyone still advocating for him actually seen him recently?

Iā€™ve seen him rinsed multiple times in the u21ā€™s, he simply canā€™t defend.

Heā€™s not Cafu going forward to make up for it let me assure you.

Well they did have an excellent right back and captain Eggs and Nathan was still a teenager but playing for Scotland!

ā€¦.i have acknowledged a connection with Rangers and have seen first hand the respect Tavernier is held in as club captain, heā€™s been terrific for them. From a footballing perspective, though, Tavernier would struggle to hold down a starting place in the PL, thereā€™s a reason why clubs south of the border have never been keen to sign him.

Saying that, I doubt Patterson would be a regular starter for Rangers if he was still there.

Donā€™t think anyone has suggested he is anything like Cafu. Itā€™s only posters who donā€™t like him that seem to be making that comparison
