It’s not real basketball anymore. Will enjoy the playoff drama but it’s otherwise getting too close to WWE for me to tune in. Caters to the stars, doesn’t enforce rules, and makes up rules they actually do enforce to disadvantage the defense.

Man, I’m getting to be an old man.

Haha. I know where you’re coming from.
I’m weirdly nostalgic for the rock fights from the late 90s

Same. Another reason you can't really compare eras either. Bring back defensive 3 seconds and allow a little contact, and we'd see scoring come back down. The game is more than a bit different driving when you don't have to worry about someone like Olajuwon or today Rudy Gobert waiting for you at the rim because they're legally not allowed to be there if you just space the floor effectively.

I think at this point you'd just get more 3s if they did that

For me the league is demarcated by Steph Curry for the game we are watching. That dude totally changed what a good shot looks like. As great as he is, and you can't argue against that greatness, there is some kid in some corner of the world that is bigger, more athletic, and just as good as shooting from range currently developing their game.

Curry literally changed the game.

I think defenses are starting to figure out what to do with these teams that jack up 50 threes a game and scores will start coming back down. What I’m really tired of is the soap opera coverage of the sport. I could not be less arsed about who said what about who and what someone else thinks about it.

Then explain to me how it’s much more difficult it is to score in international competition.
I didn't say it wouldn't be harder, I just think the adjustment becomes shooting more 3s since finishing at the rim gets harder.

I wonder if the 90s style is actually something people enjoyed more or if it is a combination of nostalgia and the fact that you basically watched what was on TV.

I enjoyed it more. I also now enjoy the college game about 1000x more than the nba.

If you've not seen Wembanyama yet just wait. Durant playing like he does at 6'11 is crazy and now we've got a guy who has skill at 7'4. So crazy stuff is certainly on the way.

I understand people don't like the current style but I think it's a little overdone, the best players right now include a poor 3 pt shooter and a guy who shoots them sparingly and wins without jumping. To me there is still plenty of variety.

I think college is unwatchable, I prefer the ball to go in the hoop. Without the passion and rivalries I don't see the point and they're in the process of ripping all that up too.

I mean ultimately most of the classic college games end up being ones where teams play good offense and make shots. It isn't a coincidence.

In that era, each possession seemed to be of greater significance since it was more difficult to score. And you had many players with quality post-up moves/games.
Today’s game with all the threes and lack of defensive intensity is a bit tedious for me.

For me the next guy to change the game would be around 6'6" to 6'8" who has Jordan and Curry in their back pocket. For his lack of height and athleticism Curry finishes in the paint at an extremely high level. Imagine if he could just dunk for fun while also hitting 40 footers like he just rolled out of bed. That guy will be here soon.

See, you can say that but perception isn’t always reality…
