In that era, each possession seemed to be of greater significance since it was more difficult to score. And you had many players with quality post-up moves/games.
Today’s game with all the threes and lack of defensive intensity is a bit tedious for me.
See I think people confuse really good players scoring with bad defense. The defense is quite good and the offense is often better.

As I've said Big Ten basketball doesn't appeal to me at all. Letting guys mug each other isn't for me.

See, you can say that but perception isn’t always reality…

NBA offenses are more efficient than college ones by and large mate, the exceptions are like Gonzaga beating up the WCC. College is a different game but a good bit of that is down to an inability to reliably make jump shots. When teams can shoot they play like NBA teams more and more these days.

You can set up any way you want on defense in college - in the NBA you can’t just sit in the lane for the entire possession and keep people away from the rim. College basketball coaches are also notorious for micromanaging and stifling their own team’s offense.

This isn't all about defensive three seconds though. Part of the reason Rudy Gobert can't endlessly stand in the lane is that teams will simply put 5 guys who can shoot jump shots on the floor and make enough of those. College teams don't do that because they aren't good enough.

True, but part of what opens that up is Gobert not being allowed to stand under the basket for the entire 24 seconds. Eventually he has to move, someone can get towards the basket and then kick out for an open shot. In college you just have to shoot over guys.

You don't have to drive and kick if a defender never leaves the lane. Just pass it around until it finds the open guy. If college teams could out 5 competent jump shooters on the floor it would open up offenses the same way. The guy would have to move from under the basket.

It’s not real basketball anymore. Will enjoy the playoff drama but it’s otherwise getting too close to WWE for me to tune in. Caters to the stars, doesn’t enforce rules, and makes up rules they actually do enforce to disadvantage the defense.

Man, I’m getting to be an old man.

I think college is unwatchable, I prefer the ball to go in the hoop. Without the passion and rivalries I don't see the point and they're in the process of ripping all that up too.

I mean ultimately most of the classic college games end up being ones where teams play good offense and make shots. It isn't a coincidence.

Too many kids playing in college. Let them go straight to the NBA and build a college roster with juniors and seniors who can run plays.

Uncontested shots have high conversion rate. As the floor spreads these will open up. Smart coaches and smart players will take advantage. Guys like Daryl Morey who can’t look past the spreadsheet don’t understand this.
The problem is in a game uncontested twos still have to go in at over 50% to compete with 3s and that's hard with the current line. You move it back and suddenly there is more space for twos and you don't have to make as many. It'll change the dynamic.
