Confirmed Signing Neal Maupay

Lampard's presser is super early today. 9.30am (5 mins from now).

Either that's because the players will be getting straight off to Brentford early this afternoon or there's something else going on behind the scenes which has pushed it forward ?

Like we have with Gueye?! What you're saying is correct, I just don't have confidence that skill and discipline exist at Everton and that there was a list with 5 names where Maupay was number 5 and we've exercised all possible avenues to recruit the other higher options. I just can't buy that and seems he's landed as the current target some other way. In any event I would rather have him than not at this stage if we can just get it done
This is why all the hand-ringing and screaming at the sky that goes on in this forum regarding transfers is so painfully futile: we have no idea how we got to where we are, who we've tried for, why we have or haven't moved on. None at all.

We have no idea how effective or otherwise Thelwell is, or is being allowed to be by Moshiri (which essentially amount to the same thing).

The only rational judgements we can make will be at the end of the window, and at the end of the season.

I get the growing feeling that the fans are just so fed up at this point that they literally won't be happy with anyone regardless.

He's not a world beater, no, but I feel like he's being severely underrated as well...

Seriously though, good signing if we get him, especially if we sort in the next few hours and he starts Saturday ahead of Rondon
I wish people could chill a little.

Maupay is of course not going to start. Even if available, he is not going to get more than 10 or 15 minutes.

Teams train together. Working on movements. Working on relations. Have designated tasks both with and without the ball. To throw in a player that has not trained with the team is much more likely to harm the team than to make anything better.

It is also important to try to maximise the chances for a player to be success. A good start is helpful. A bad start in a new club is a potential disaster.

Look what other clubs do. Spurs did their business early. The only new player that has started a match is Perisic that Conte new form Inter. Scamacca at West Ham is an Italy international and a £35M signing. Eased into action and have not started in the league for a struggling West Ham.

Nunez cost a ton of money but was carefully matched by Klopp. And when the injury situation was so bad that Nunez had to start, it did cost the team. Big time.

Bournemouth signed an Argentina international and gave him first start last weekend. It took less than five minutes before his mistake caused a goal against. He was subbed off at half time.

We are playing Brentford tomorrow. They made exciting signings this summer in Lewis-Potter and Damsgaard. None of them are starting league matches yet.

Whether Maupay starts or not tomorrow will hardly do any difference for the chances of getting a result. He has zero minutes of football this season.

Way too often have Everton threw players that is not ready into the starting eleven. Not giving them a chance to get a good start. Ruined their confidence.

Maupay is probably a £30-35M investment. The club need to think long term.
