2022/23 Neal Maupay

Asking a Yaris to go off-road.

But I will say...I kinda get why Thelwell and Lamps brought him in. Mainly because Lampard wanted to eventually play passing, between the lines, two touch football which would probably suit him.

However... clearly a walk before you can run situation. Should've brought in Che Adams-like player.

Bingo.

I like Maupay but he is never a number 9;

I like Maupay but he isn't a number 9.

Our front three is suspect even with Calvert Lewin.

I just don't see us scoring enough to keep us away from a relegation fight.

Negligence from the board.

I'm still hoping Chelsea bringing in Aubameyang and maybe Depay will let them loan Broja.

... never a number 9 for Everton, and certainly not one in a Dyche's Everton. I think Dyche would have kept Rondon.

Maupay as backup/replacing Calvert-Lewin is as demented thinking as Bielsa vs Dyche.

Maupay, upfront/isolated on his tod, back to defence in a side that for years now has been hovering between 18th and 20th in the league for chances created.

League goals for Brighton 10 in 37, 8 in 33, 8 in 32.

League goals for Everton 1 in 17.

This from the summer has been our problem for years, and still is;

I've bored everyone with my view about our attack but I'll say it again - I think any three of any of McNeil, Gordon, Townsend, Gray, Rondon, Maupay and we struggle to be competitive enough to stay in this league. We'll be asking players to hit numbers for goals/assists that they've never hit before.

If we don't bring in anyone else to fill the void that Lampard has spoke about then IMO, we'll be in a position were the difference between a relegation scrap to the wire, or mid table comfort comes down to Calvert-Lewin's fitness IMO, and even then - we've lost his biggest providers. We don't create a lot - 19th or 20th for chances last season, and 18th so far this season.

Maupay was bought to replace ruxharlison coming off the left, with a bit industry, pressing and snide, chipping in with 8-10 a season with Dcl leading the line.
Maupay leading the line has not worked

Play gray up front and Godfrey at left back.
Playing Gray up front is unlikely to work with Dyche as the manager. Gray would be as unable to perform the role as Maupay is, the ball would just keep coming back off him because he isn't a hold up player. The plus of playing Gray over Maupay is that Gray is much quicker, but, he wouldn't get through half the amount that Maupay does.

God help us, I think our best option is Simms. He's a poor option, but, I think he's our only option.

I have a feeling we think Simms is a different player to what he is.

Just based on the little I saw of him at Sunderland/what their fans told me.

You say there we need a hold up player?

Apparently Simms isn't that.

Not the most popular opinion but I would carry on playing him. Give him or Simms the last 14 games (assuming Calvert Lewin is out) and this lad is more likely to score the most goals.

I don't think he is, but, we have seen him win balls both on the ground and in the air on occasion. I think he is a terrible option, but, thanks to the ineptitude of our recruitment, he is probably the best option we have. He is also, if his record out on loan is to be considered, capable of finding the net regularly, albeit at a lower level of football. He also is a physical presence and although he doesn't put himself about as much as he should for a man of his size he does at least have the physical attributes, if Dyche can unlock that side of his game.

As I said, I don't think he is a good option whatsoever, I just think he may well be the least bad option. Either way we may as well give him a chance now, we are hardly going to be less toothless with him replacing Maupay.
