That was more or less the whole point. You can bet your life brighton wouldnt have bought him and played him like we did.
He started 25 games for brighton last year. Got 8 goals and 7 assists.
He's got 1 goal and zero assists for Everton.
Look closer to home at our recruitment.
But windy is also right - he's a bad player. Yeah, in a team that creates chances for fun, he gets goals/assists, but that doesn't make him a good striker. Niasse scored a bunch of goals for us and he was absolutely dogturd.

However, even Niasse could actually finish the ball, or at least try to, even if he didn't always hit the target. Maupay can be 1v1 with the open goal and miss. In fact, he's done it quite a few times already lol

We created 2 chances any half-competent striker in the Prem (or even Championship) slots with absolute EASE. He crapped the bed on both. Again.

But apparently we were completely outplayed and did not have a chance!

I reckon before their 2nd, we should have been 3 up. Profligacy in front of goal is our worst trait, and there is no bigger perpetrator than Maupay. One might call him our traitor.

I mean we were outplayed - we could have had 3 but genuinely so could they. In fact, they scored some of their chances too lol

But yeah Maupay scores those and it's a different game. Really annoying the little 1-2 he did, could've also finished that first time if he had any technique. But alas.

He’s not doing it deliberately he’s just crap and not just that wholly unsuited for the role we’ve got him filling . Those who decided he was all we needed To score the goals in the fight against relegation are the ones I’d be pointing the finger at

I think there has been enough pointed at the decision, it still makes him an abject failure and surely as a striker, he has to take responsibility for his lack of end product.

Ultimately our players are given a free ride compared to those that bought them, but there is an equal responsibility on the players to perform basic professional footballer standards too.

Oh that wasn’t my intention, I just mean in terms of ‘traitor’ to be honest .By and large the players are well deserving of any stick thrown their way .

He`s the French John Spencer.

A little unlikable nark, who`s not very good.

Niasse would run like a rabid dog too. For a team devoid of pace, he'd have actually done well at the moment

lets get it right. I never said he was a good striker. And he's been an absolute disaster. I said he contributed and played regular for a decent team. He wouldnt have played regular if he was contributing nothing. There is a big difference.
Everton shouldnt have bought him. He wasnt what was needed. hence(again) the whole point was about poor recruiting. Not the first time we have bought players it seems with no real thought about where to play them.

Exactly.

I mean, it's completely fine to suggest he genuinely looks like a lost little boy amongst a sea of grown men on the football field, but we shouldn't forget that he didn't sign himself for Everton and select himself as a 5'7 focal point of a one-person attacking unit.

I genuinely think if you listed all the strikers available to buy from all the prem teams last summer, for the way we play and what we needed I can't think of anyone worse than him, a 5ft 7 slow unathletic poor finishing striker who only contributes in high possession based teams

He played more wide and off wellbeck at brighton who was the main lead the line forward. So of course when calvert lewin was fit(no laughing at the back) what did we do with maupay? We stuck him on the bench. And only seemed to play him as a direct replacement for calvert lewin.
Just leads you to look at Everton and wonder if a single thought goes into it when recruiting players.
