2022/23 Neal Maupay

He has scored goals in the premier league, quite consistently until he joined us. I think in the right set up he might do ok.

Just cant believe how bad he is for us.

He never scored goals consistently. He was acknowledged widely as the reason Brighton were a bottom half side with a top 6 xG, because he couldn’t hit a cow’s arse. He had the freedom of the penalty area today and pearolled it straight at the keeper. That has nothing to do with the setup he’s in.

even lookman, who's banging them in in serie A last season, would be better than the muppet. its not about size.

I don't think this is just a Maupay 'thing'. We could have turned a prime Messi into a yard dog inside of one season.

Agree though that he needs to move on to become the legend he will undoubtedly turn out. Probably also end up winning the Balloon d'Or at some point!

This is something seemingly not considered by the club. Brighton create many more chances for him and he only scored a small percentage of those chances there's a reason they replaced him.

I just watched the Wigan highlights. Maupay is so bad maybe one of the worst signings we have made, up there with Niasse. So ineffective as a striker. We can't really afford to play him in Premier League games.

It is a Maupay thing. He couldn’t score even if he was leading the line for Citeh.

Niasse was absolutely miles better than Maupay. He was actually a threat and made things happen simply by running around. He could also finish to a half decent standard. Maupay is the most non-threatening forward I’ve ever seen. I’m not convinced he’d be effective at any level of professional football, he doesn’t have one attribute to speak of.

If we signed a 26 year old now with that record, we'd all be pleased.

Championship player of the year before Brighton snapped him up for a big fee.

Better record than plenty who we've been linked with like gyokeres

He's a decent player as an option - just never a number 9 in this Everton team.

The knives were out for McNeil early on as well, he was mud and I was talking about the mitigating circumstances for him and the same is very true for Maupay.

If we can sell, we should because he wasn't an Everton number 9 nevermind a Dyche number 9 but the problem is worse than "Maupay is crap". The problem is deeper than that at Everton - as a club we routinely set players up to fail.

Like Che Adams? I wouldn’t be.

I edited a bit about McNeil before you quoted it, and I guarantee it was particularly apt for you. You'd have no doubt called him all sorts when I was explaining the reasons why it's unfair on the lad - things like playing him out of position and him having no outball whatsoever.

Too many think football is just like a video game.

The margins are small, and Everton are routinely setting players up to fail.

Maupay is 26 and has scored goals at a decent level every year until Everton.

McNeil has improved, fair play, Maupay is not going to improve. Brighton got rid of him because he wasn’t good enough for them. If we were to set the team up to cater to him and he scores 6 next season (more chance of me shatting a potato out of my arse) then it doesn’t mean he’s good enough for us either.
