He didn't do well today on the handful of scraps he got, but it's insane to play it long ball to a bloke that is towered over by Herve Villechaize. If we're gonna do that play Rondon or Keane FFS.

In that case he may find it a struggle against Burn and Botman on Wednesday evening.

So isolated. He was poor with the odd touch he got but that was the graveyard shift for a striker today. Would hate to play upfront for this team, no chances at all.

….strikers relish that lone role when their defence is under the cosh, they fight for everything, run the channels and use their back to goal technique to hold the ball up, keep possession and get free kicks. Maupay doesn’t do that and he doesn’t terrify defenders with his quality.

He’s an upgrade on Rondon but he’s added very little, which is a disappointment for Thelwell/Lampard.

He isn't going to win anything in the air.
Needs somebody' up with him.

….the technique is to turn those high balls into passes into your body by backing into the bigger CB. It’s what you do. Put your arms and backside out, take the defender a yard back with you so the ball comes into your chest. He’s very ordinary with his back to goal play.

We bought a player that doesn’t fit our strategy, tbh I’m not certain what type of striker he is. perhaps he’s a good sub.

Intelligent box player who finds space, works well with the ball at his feet, can score.

90% of his game time so far has been chasing long balls, expected to hold it up, hardly gets the ball to feet, zero service from either wide player who tend to a) not pass to him (or anyone) or b) lose the ball. Oh, and get his head on the odd cross.

End of the day he's a different option to Dom. However, we have no way of how to use that option.

You said he was a good signing.
